Nah, I just walked/rolled through it. When you first enter the area it seems deceptively big, but it's actually quite small. Once you find the second bonfire, you're smack bang opposite the boss area, and it's much easier to navigate from there.

You've gotta go up the elevator next to the second shortcut back to the cathedral bonfire, keep going up, then drop down to the roof. Explore until you find the cathedral rafters, then drop down onto the platform next to the two knights. Should be obvious from there

It's pretty well optimized. It's not gonna be easy to run like DS2, but it's with a good reason, it looks miles better, like, staggering amounts better. Turn off Motion Blur and DoF for an instant extra 5-10 frames at any given time, and lowering lighting has a better impact on framerate than most other options. Buy it, try it out for an hour, and if it doesn't run well on Medium settings, I'd refund it at that point.

It's been a few months and I don't remember what the last thing I did was. I think I killed the fucking hell tree last. I think I only have new londo left to finish the lordvessel, but I last got off at the portal dlc world because I wanted to farm humanity for full upgrades before finishing the game.
Does it annoy anyone else that Chsrged R2's don't have a flash and sound cue like they did in Bloodborne?
It felt so much more satisfying and you knew exactly when the hyper-armour began. Plus charge attacks in BB were unique animations a lot of the time and always had higher knockback, in DaS3 every one I've used is just the R2 with a long charge up and more damage.
This game is actually being quite hard for me, the enemies are as aggressive and fast as Bloodborne but you don't have the quickness to deal with it properly.
And weapon arts are fuckimg disappointing, I use half my FP on a multihit super thrust on my Halbard and it barely does any damage and doesn't even break people's guard.

Because I'm taking a break from playing it. Pretty solid game so far. Combat, enemy and level design is a pretty big improvement over Dark Souls 1 and 2 but the overall structure of the game's world kinda sucks, even compared to 2. Was really hoping they would bring back the huge amount of sequence breaking you could do in 1. Some areas like the Undead Settlement get really tiresome too because of how huge and samey they are. Bosses are just alright, nothing special but that's fine since that's not the game's focus.

Want a tip? Keep heading left until you find the big stone door. Opposite that is a large elevated walkway with a bonfire at the top. Makes the are much easier to navigate.

Like, it was alright in the beginning, highwall and undead settlement were alright, even if they were obviously stealiing hard from 2-2 and the village in BB.
But then it turned into every area had to be a reference, a swamp, or both.
With the exceptions of abyss walkers and pontiff something, all the bosses had to be slow and unthreatening as fuck.
Nearly every boss has a 2nd form, they are either almost always unfun (fight him again, BUT ON FIRE, which has already been done twice in this game, a second phase that does basically nothing but give you free whacks during the transformation, or a second phase that makes the boss ridiculously easy (pontiff)
Pontiff is really the only memorableish fight, even with his 'I bet you can't dodge my attack if I telegraph it twice and even slower!" mode
The areas, oh god
There are 5 different fucking swamps
There are 3 graveyards
There are 2 skeleton tombs
there is a secret area that is literally the tutorial area, but in the dark
There are no original areas
there's NOT latria (dungeon+profane capital), NOT 1-1 (castle), NOT ANOR LONDO ARCHER AREA (the part right before anor londothey straight up copy paste areas (titinate demon fight where you fight the frost demon, the entrance to the dungeon is exactly the entrance to nito's lair, it's like this everywhere)
The mob spam makes DaS2 look tame.

Besides, there's also those "phantom weapon" spells that you can use to fuck up other spellcasters if you can get close enough to them.
If you really want to fuck with people, invade someone in a dark place, and use spook to make noises and attract enemies towards them.

There's a second form to all of them, yes. But not in the way you might think. They don't all transform like the first boss, and the "transformation", if you can even call it that, is never really noticeable.the music changes and they generally just become more aggressive.
There are exceptions. The Crystal Sage has a bunch of mimics which rape you with crystal soul spears, and Abyss Watcher turns into Artorias 2.0, but other than those the bosses don't really change.

I'm trying to like this fight, I really really am but I just fought it for the first time and died from curse seemingly without any sort of build up meter. Am I missing something? I understand getting hit by the giant black balls builds up curse but I swear I didn't have any built up and started wailing on the guy in second phase, got him to like 10% then just randomly died from curse.
Any suggestions for my second try?

On a different note, Is there a way to disable the ballista in the smoldering ruins? I killed the boss and it seemed like the demon ruins area by him is a dead end. I have yet to see any way up to the ballista and it's really infuriating

Not even close. Crystal Sage is a pain in the ass in the second stage, and the fight is deliberately drawn out because anxiety is fun. Pinwheel is tank and spank with no pissing around at all.

You can also damage both him and his ghost clone while he's summoning it. If you time it well, you can cut down 90% of the clone, and have it out in the next round. Immensely helpful.
