what was the last game that made you cry?
Pic related.
Went back and replayed it recently. The soundtrack is what really gets me.

That game made you cry? I dunno, the ending twist just happened out of nowhere and only left me confused and shocked but not sad. Plus it was pretty awkward seeingyour character crying under a tree while the credits ran. Whatever, it's my favorite in the series regardless just for the gameplay and music alone.
Anyways, pic related's ending made me cry like a bitch when you had to see all your friends go, even though they were all pretty one-dimensional.
Same with me OP.

How do you people enjoy this game? I can't get past the first hour.
>>333910158
I just couldn't play that game.
10 minutes in and I felt like I've played the same game 5 times.
And I did.

I found the introduction great, but the grind just isn't as enchanting as Rescue Team or Explorers. Both postgames are there for me to do over, I recently played them over again to recaptivate my love of the game.

The soundtrack in PMD never disappoints.

No game has made me cry.
>fight your way trough the entire game>killing the final boss will put you in stasis and kill everything you ever loved
also i felt really really sad when the character named after my dog died on Xcom, i got really atached to that character for some reason
I felt like Super Mystery Dungeon was a pretty weak entry to be honest. First half of the game is the introduction, then the second half is an all new cast so you don't see any characters fleshed out. The ending was definitely weak compared to Rescue Team and Explorers, it didn't even make me sad. The final boss was sick though, loved that.

I don't mind lengthy tutorials and enjoy reading dialogue between characters. I found the beginning music to be enjoyable and the characters to be funny, and there was the ever-lying question right from the start of why you were in this world. That was the start that kept it engaging for me.
I also just in general like the gameplay; paying attention to hunger, exploring dungeons trying to get to the stairs...I like that stuff. I also felt for how everyone made fun of my partner and how he didn't fit in, and wanted to see him improve.

It's about as flawed as Gates honestly, just in other areas.

Great game. The soundtrack is definitely what makes the game for me. Everything else ranges from good enough to great, but the music pulls everything together and makes everything seem better than it really is. Especially becausethe ending twist is pretty fucking random and has some questionable plot holes. The postgame story, the whole hour or two that there is, has pretty good buildup (mostly because of the dope ass music) but ultimately has a shitty resolution that should have been better. That said, this ending hit me hard. Some fans say that the partner disappearing instead of you is a bad move, but I don't know, I think it made the ending a lot more effective for me because I got really attached to my partner.

>The ending was definitely weak compared to Rescue Team and Explorers
Can't speak for Explorers, but I have no idea how you can say that Super's ending is weaker than RRT unless you absolutely hated your partner in SMD.
It was a really weird feeling having beat the game when it came out in Japan and literally having no-one besides 1 or 2 people on the fucking Serebii forums to talk to about it.
Great, great game.

Wtf is that a broken 3ds?
>>333916337
Why didn't you just wait to play the English version or just talk about it on Japanese game forums or something?

I was still really early into learning moonrunes when the nip version came out and I figured I'd try playing it in moonrunes. I ended up filling a notebook with notes while playing through the story. Good times.

Nah, just one of the oddest pre-order bonuses I've seen for a game.

DESU, I played this right after finishing danganronpa 2, so maybe thats why...

Some people take issue with the twist at the end whereyour partner is really Mew and must leaveand the part post end credits whereyour partner returns, but I thought it was strong otherwise. Lots of time spent on the characters in early game before all the crazy shit started happening. And the game wound up having a lot of foreshadowing which I thought was appreciable, particularly in early game with regards toNuzleaf being the "bad guy".
I dunno what was so bad about that.
I haven't played Danganronpa 2, but after playing 1, I'm not sure how. They're both Spike Chunsoft games, and Danganronpa's strength lies in its characters and crazy twists, especially towards the end. But Danganronpa is also much more structured than Super Mystery Dungeon is. You know there's going to be a death each chapter and its easier to expect what's going to happen.
>>333918371
>implying it isn't
Explorers' pacing is too fast and the gameplay and music are both not as good. Explorers' strength lies in its side episodes.

She is still alive... right anon?
>>333918545
Nah, I didnt mind the twist. I just hated my partner (and many aspects of the story) with a passion due to cliche/corniness so I was glad when she was gone.
DR1 was really easy on the feelings since all the characters that seemed important survived at the end. DR2, however, will kill almost anyone, important or not.
>>333918153
It's definitely not a story that appeals to everyone. For one, it's pretty cliche and generic in a lot of ways. But a cliche story isn't always a 'bad' one. A lot of people seem to find the beginning boring. I get it, it's a glorified tutorial that takes up half the game, but I like the tone of the story. It's innocent and charming, almost like EarthBound in how 'familiar' it feels. It reminded me of when I was in elementary school
>spooky shit happens
>you and your friend scooby doo into a haunted tree that is also a dungeon
There was actually a tree at my school my friends and I thought was haunted back in like, 5th grade or something, so it just brings a smile to my face thinking about scenes like that. Also,
>your partner can't adventure with you the next day because he has to do chores
It's just little things that I personally don't see in games that often.
Also, the last third of the game is the best, because of how quickly the tone changes from 'ye mang we gon git sum bad guys haha git sum bogeys!" to "holy shit we've died and gone to hell." The music drives it all home for me. It's just such a strange but really cool atmosphere to see in a game with the Pokemon name attached, and that's something to keep in mind, because mainline Pokemon game stories might as well not exist.
The ending, in this PMD in particular, players will either fucking hate or fucking love in a disgruntled and depressed kind of way.
