I grew up playing Guilty Gear games on the PS1/2 as my introduction to the genre, so for me I see that as the more influential and important series for me. I know that's probably not the norm

Yeah, assuming that the other player is standing perfectly still near a corner. Stretch it a little bit to compensate for punishing whiffed specials, that still leaves the possibility of it actually happening in a real match incredibly low.
Not to mention Urien doesn't exactly have a high stun count.
