It annoys me that they never released this for PC but they did release 2 and 3 - especially since the first is the best.
I know DR was always ridiculous and had weird stuff in it but the first one seemed a bit more restrained in a lot of ways. All the silly stuff seemed all the more silly.

I agree. The first one felt the least like it was trying to be zany. it was just a dude trying to survive and get a scoop. Along the way, you could take some serious risks and try to save people, but it was hard to keep them safe on the way back.
1 also just has the best psychos. The ones from the sequels are totally forgettable, which is criminal.

I've never played the first one due to it being an Xbox only title but I felt it had a certain charm which made it better than the others. The way you described it seems to be why I like it so much.

Even though I only fought some of them once or twice I remember so many of the psychos. There are some the game won't ever let you forget, like the convicts, but I only ever fought that molotov guy and the landwhale dyke security guard once and I remember them really vividly.
I remember very little of 2's details at all but there are a ton of things from 1 that I can't ever forget.

There were a lot of weird things that the game never really told you about or drew attention to. The story was really dramatic and self-serious which made it seem like the game took itself seriously but when all the lights went out somebody snuck into the office and secretly put the silly stuff in there.
If you tried to throw something with nothing in your hand you spat and you could make a milkshake that made your spit turn into bullets for a while - but if you never knew about the spit OR how to make the milkshake OR thought to combine the two actions, you wouldn't find out about it.

It's always been explained to me as a glitch, considering that they can show up more than one time on day 2. It's just every time you walk through the park you run the risk of spawning them.
DR has a few really damning bugs, but they are infrequent and the game is so damn good people overlook it.

Dead Rising 1 always felt super creepy to me. I havent played it in years since my younger brother caused it to magically disappear when I went to camp. I might be able to play it now without being creeped out, but before when I had it I almost couldnt play it alone. Just the thought of being stranded alone in a mall with zombies horrified me. 2 and 3 can have creepy moments I guess when I get cornered but otherwise don't feel as bad as the first to me.

I should've clarified that they spawn each day between midnight and five. They are definitely bugged, because you can kill them all on day two at 00:05 and have them spawn again before five, but I'm not sure if fighting them more than once altogether is a bug or a feature.

Also Project Zomboid is the only game where i felt "Well fuck" when seeing a horde coming to my comfy base.
Zombi is pretty fun too so far, feels like a Resident Evil game.
