PS3 and 360 had a combnied userbase of more then 170M. PS4 and Xbone combined are barely over 60M.
And if you think that the only people who would buy the NX will be those who also bought a Wii U you're retarded. A lot of Nintendo fans have skipped the Wii U. I know I did, and all my Nintendrone friends did too.

Funny, I've been out of video games for a long time. But I was walking by the gaming case in Walmart the other day and literally every single game in the Wii U case was made or published by Nintendo outside of two or three shitty movie spinoffs. They don't care or need third party support because the average person wouldn't buy it no matter how good the game is when there is a Mario clone of the same type of game right next to it.
Anyways I think the NX would do well for the reasons you stated, most people skipped the Wii U and are ready for something better.

It's too late for the NX to get that market because, like with the 360 before it, a lot of people already bought a PS4, so developers are gonna keep making games with PS4 focus and people are gonna buy more PS4s because their friends have PS4s.
Nintendo doesn't go for that market anyway, because they know they can't win even if they make the most powerful system, the N64 and GCN are proof of this. Nintendo focuses on making a system with unique attributes that make it an alternative to PS4/Bone, not a competitor to it.
People asking for Nintendo to make a PS4 clone or even a more powerful PS4 clone are dumb and don't understand how sales work. Your "AAA" games like Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty and Fallout 4 and all the other trash gamers fall all over will be lucky to get NX ports even if NX is more powerful than PS4, just like how GCN didn't even get ports of most PS2 games despite being more powerful.
Nintendo has no choice but to do their own thing entirely to create their appeal. If "hardcore" gamers don't want that, so be it, because they're not the audience.

Pretty much, not to mention that nintendo doesn't care to suck third party dick as much as the other consoles. They've been getting better at it, and made some nice partnerships with Platinum and capcom, but in general they've got the notion that they can carry themselves with their own games, and don't really care to help with publishing, marketing or allowing DLC on their stores.
Also, its interesting that Nintendo's gimmicks give third parties a nice excuse to say "we'd rather make games that use the gamepad's/wiimote's potential" when in general they're just not willing to jump the hoops to get outsold 20:1 by mario.
I guess they could make a powerful console, it's just that there's no real evidence they actually want to, for whatever reason.

Quite conversely, it's only Nintendo fans who bought one. All the casuals and other "normal" people who bought a Wii are the people who skipped the Wii U.
