DESU, season 1 was honestly not very good. People look at it with rose-tinted glasses because it was a new KI, but it launched unbalanced as all fuck, with only 6 characters, and no single player modes.

Depends on what you want, really. Sabrewulf is a well-rounded beginner character. Rash is a good beginner-friendly character, and will teach you a lot about air juggles. Thunder is good for people who prefer grapplers.
If you're coming from SG, you might like Sadira. She has a heavy focus on air combos, which is a bit different from Rash's juggles, since they mostly rely on him being on the ground.

Before I knew how to do combos KI, I would watch and say 'wow thats fast'
But actually its a way more simple combo system, since you can control the speed and properties of your combo.
Imagine doing a Filia's hairball, you hit and press a button (m.punch)
Filia after finishing her hairball will proceed to do two m.punches
While she is still doing her two punches, you 'link' it, basically meaning you do another special move, like another hairball
After the 'link', you can press another button like h.kick
During the h.kick you might say, 'hey I want to cash in from this combo' and do a finishing move like ringlet spike OR I wanna extend my combo with another hairball
Now there are several mechanics that I didnt mention like how your opponent can guess the strength of your button press and break the combo or how some characters don't even have to link
I had a friend over who also played skullgirls and SF before and we had a genuinely fun time

Just do special > HP/HK > special > HP/HK > ender until you get the hang of it. Once you've got it down just learn to mix it up to avoid breakers.

He's like Cinder. Mash friendly but you get nothing out of it since he does so much low damage to compensate for his reach and pokes being godlike (The only characters with better are Kim-Wu's air D+HP and Hisako's everything) and having bad defense. His game plan is based around resets, opening opportunities and constantly putting the opponent on the back heel with his teleport. Carbine is guaranteed damage and tagging a sticky already opens them for setups. Especially since teleport is unblockable and you can tag them with a sticky after.
Not an easy character to play but he's so good at pissing people off when you know how to play him, just like Cinder

Fundamentally its a lot like Street Fighter stuff.
Only the combo system is completely different as it pretty much allows the other player to break out of combos which leads to some extra mindgames.
