Gehrman is a bad last boss fight and I'll tell ya why ya fuggin nugguh.
The arena you fight him in is supposed to be iconic and memorable, like fighting the Boss in MGS3.
The difference is:
Gehrman isn't present for 90% of the game.
You get to the Hunters Dream, he tells you some cryptic shit, then fucks off. Then after beating Gascoigne, he tells you to find a chalice, then fucks off for basically the rest of the game.
So you have such little attachment to Gehrman that the fight has no weight too it.
Gehrman is actually a worse fight than Father Gascoigne, because he's actually incredibly easy, especially considering you should probably have a +9-10 weapon and have vastly improved your parrying skills.
Mergo, Gehrman, and Moon Presence are all incredibly lack luster.
Gehrman is often regarded as one of the better boss fights and I agree, but it's still pretty shit. FROM just can't make good boss fights.

I learned about dodging boulders much later, after lowering all setting to shit to avoid lags.
