What are some neat things you enjoy seeing in vidya?
I love seeing wind in games. Witcher 3 and Rise of the Tomb Raider do a bretty gud job at wind.
>>333838510
Every thing that is volumetric related (smokes, particles, clouds...)
I'm a sucker for good looking water in games.
>>333838884
It always seems to destroy FPS though, or does that just depend on the GPU?
>>333838923
>>333838510
>hair blowing in constant direction
>trees and bush move back and forth half the speed
shame they didn't spend more time on the other details :/
>>333839146
The wind stops, changes direction, and even has different levels from breezes to gusts. It's a really nice detail.
Another neat thing I like is when your character actually looks around or interacts with the environment (like blocking their face when near fire).
>>333839013
indeed. For exemple in bloodborne 90% of the framerate issues happen when theres fog or smoke.
In TW3 they simply removed the volumetric smoke (i guess because it was open world).
>move camera around
>character's head moves around as if they're looking where you're looking
>>333838510
I remember back when I was playing Aion, I got into this desert zone and I was just absolutely taken aback by how gorgeous it was. The sun beating off the dunes giving it that wavy heat effect (that I don't know the name of), sand being blown about. Coming from the only other MMO I was playing at the time, being Warcraft, I was amazed at how beautiful a desert could be in a game.
Shame blizz let me down with Uldum, really.
I love me some weather
>wind picking up
>rain dropping down
>thunder and lightning
aww ye
>>333839658
>character starts to doze off when you go idle for a while
tank u zelda n sonic
>>333838510
I agree.
Everything moves and makes it more alive.
>dedicated taunt button
Huge skyboxes and open landscapes. I love that shit. I wish Ubishit went the route of 2008 PoP instead of Ass Creed route. Game was gorgeous.
>>333840175
>Hissing in AvP
>>333839852
Mad Max game does a fucking amazing job at making the desert feel real. You can see the heat and everything.
>>333838923
Picture not related?
>>333840156
>fraps.com
Get Shadowplay or OBS senpai.
>>333840435
Not made by me laddie.
>drive vehicle on terrain
>it carefully bounces on the terrain
I don't have a webm but you get the idea.
>>333840327
GOD I love me some skyboxes.
>>333840680
Rain, wet surfaces, and the reflections that come along with them.
>>333840680
>RAGE
this game makes me sad because I loved the world, loved the gameplay and loved the visuals and it could have been so much better.
>>333840043
didn't Mario 64 start that?
>>333840905
Whoa, I guess this is.... the power of.... the PS4...
>>333840905
Let it rain, let it rain.
Make the pain go awaaaaay
>>333840990
Don't know if sarcastic, but i'm pretty sure that's pc
love me some reflections from water, floors etc
on another note
>reflections reflect world beautifully
>doesnt reflect characters tho
>>333840990
To be fair, the WebM was recorded on my old 7850, so it wasn't anywhere near the highest settings.
Sunsets are neat too.
>>333840905
>>333841029
I'm gonna ruin this for you, rain barely affects cars graphically, they get slightly more glossy but don't look wet or even show raindrops on windows/windscreen.on ps4 anyway
>>333838510
Everything that my GPU can't run desu
>>333838510
Rise of the Tombraider was a beautiful game, i just wished it wasnt so easy and that their were more levels
The Banjo Kazooie witch fight was really neat
Also Alice
>Black and white 2.
>Send army out beyond your domain.
>Let them sit around for a little bit.
>They set up camp, do patrol marches, have mock battles, make food, etc.
Also, even though it wasn't my favorite game in the world.
>Rome II: Total War
>Units speak to each other before a battle.
>After a battle.
>They ask around if their buddies are still alive.
>>333838510
Water I can fap to.
>>333839013
yeah, it's super taxing.
Recently devs started to use it more. Some people are pissed though, a lot of current implementations are compute heavy
>>333839056
>>333838923
this
>>333843053
>>333841537
Isn't the point of PhysX to make shit like this run better?
>>333840905
>>333840156
The way the did the sound for the wind, and all the weather desu, in that game were spectacular
>>333845049
Wind's howling...
>>333845187
Fuck. Now I want to reinstall it. New game plus didn't do much for me. Is the dlc worth it?
>>333838510
>>333845049
Love how you could hear branches snapping and everything.
The sound design and attention to detail in the witcher 3 was amazing.
>>333844409
No, the point of PhysX is good looking technologies.
>>333839658
Dead Space
>>333840989
Commander Keen start this you newfag
>>333844409
PhysX is a separate project. Right now they focus more on GameWorks to take their own spin on these technologies.
Like Godrays, it's a volumetric lighting by nVidia used for lightshafts, Tomb Raider and Quantum Break used more traditional way to do their lighting.
I never played Witcher 3 but from what I saw in videos it seems the wind never stops blowing. Seems like it'd get on my nerves if anything.
Thunderstorms hands down.
Stalker at night time during a thunderstorm. Especially with mods that make the lighting/weather better. Making your way around the map using just the flashes of lightning.
Fuck. Good thunderstorms in games are the best. Especially when they take the effort to do different levels of weather. Like downpours, light rain, or full on tornadic shit.
god rays look awesome
I love them IRL too
>>333845459
Tomb Raider has really good lighting imo
>>333845263
Go forit, Hearts of stone is great !
Also i'm hyped as fuck for Blood & Wine.
>>333846690
So does Quantum Break. It's not about bad-good, nVidia has their own strengths and they use GameWorks to play them up, instead of getting shit on a biscuit.
>>333840905
>Gets a wanted level for standing still
Murica
>>333847121
This is the game that is optimized like Arkham Knight on PC right?
>>333847434
Nah, it runs fine on AMD.
>night/dark cave
>It's actually dark and you need to use light sources
Fuck I love Dragon's Dogma.
>>333847671
>980 SLI
>not enough for 60 fps
>>333847865
>SLI isn't supported
>avg 66FPS on a single 980ti
reading comprehension much?
>>333847705
I like when dark is actually dark
>>333848423
>>333847705
Love me some pitch black caves.
Real, actual dynamic lighting.
quantum break is capped at 50fps, so those graphs are straight up lying. I guess that's what AMD have to do in order to convince people they can get 60fps
>>333847249
The car window is smashed, so the dude had just broken into that car before the WebM started.
Highly stylized games (Killer is Dead, Wolfenstein The New Order, Borderlands)
Breaking 4th wall
Good use of DoF
>>333849437
>Breaking 4th wall
this is really played and no one does anything interesting with it usually, otherwise I agree.
Storms and lightning.
>>333838923
>>333840327
2 in one.
>>333840327
>That portal storm that comes towards you and destroys the train bridge
>>333850090
What game is that?
>>333850416
Dragon Age Inquisition
>>333845430
I love Dead Space's UI.
It's such a clever way of making the game more immersive. I'd love to see more games make use of similar UI schemes.
>>333845263
>Is the dlc worth it?
Holy shit nigger what is wrong with you? Fucking play it, if you thought the baron quest was already top story, this tops it even more.
I love fast paced combat where I can spaz out like an idiot.
I think it'sfun
>>333851004
Jesus christ it looks like you're getting staggered by them but it's actually you killing them
Combat in this game is so fucking bad
But I respect your opinion, anon
>>333840338
The 2010 AvP could have been a great game. COULD.
>>333838510
i enjoy gameplay instead of watching fake wind
>>333845274
game?
>>333838510
REALTIME BEARD GROWTH
>>333851724
gayest character design ever
>>333840665
Fucking loved mgsv and all the details, shame about the unfinished content and story.
cloth physics
>>333850604
Oh man Dead Space had some seriously good ideas. It really felt more immersive just due to the lack of HUD.
Deep snow that actually slows you down when you're going through it.
>>333851525
woah fucking SCHOOLED
>>333852048
Cloth physics with PhysX turned on are delicious.
>>333851724
MGS3 did this a decade ago.
>enemies actually notice when their friends go missing
>enemies periodically check in with one another as they search for you
>enemies call out your specific location (e.g., "He's behind the bus!") when they spot you
>enter a dark place from a light one
>lighting simulates your character's eyes adjusting to the light
>footprints in snow/sand don't disappear after you walk away
>reload rifle with ammo still in the magazine
>rifle now has 31 rounds because of the 1 still in the chamber
>WORKING MIRRORS
>pass under a stream of falling water
>character puts their hand up to keep their head dry
>holstered weapons actually appear on the character model instead of just disappearing
>>333852048
This always kills me.
Red Dead has pretty fucking decent cloth physics in 2010, meanwhile it takes Bethesda five more years to add anything even resembling it in their new game.
If I NEVER see a stiff robe or a dress glued to the character's legs again, it will have been too soon.
>>333852908
does fallout 4 even have realistic cloth physics?
>>333852672
And it was neat in MGS3 too.
>>333852891
>Metro
>PC reloads a shotgun
>primes the chamber
>loads another one
>now have full ammo and 1 in the chamber.
>>333849124
5/6 of refresh rate, so on a 144hz screen you can get greater than 50
>>333853803
It has pretty decent cloth physics but doesn't really do a lot with it.
Halo 3 had neat things spilling out of its wazoo.
>>333852891
>reload rifle with ammo still in the magazine
>rifle now has 31 rounds because of the 1 still in the chamber
>holstered weapons actually appear on the character model instead of just disappearing
Those are fucking great, it's a shame not every dev includes them in their games
Apart from nice particle & weather effects I'm also a sucker for idle animations
I like in open world games finding where people have set up little camps, especially where you can sleep. You always find little areas in fallout 4 where people were holed up at some point but not enough mattresses/bedrolls, especially as it is meant to be dangerous out and you would think people would sleep where they could when it was safe.
I also like side quests and missions where it is something small and not a huge deal. Again in FO4, a radio signal asking for help from an injured guy hiding in a shelter from ghouls asks for assistance. When you get there he is dead, but it would have been nice for you to have some options, like killing the ghouls and he comes out, he could have asked if you heard the signal and came to help (saying thanks if you had, or saying its lucky you came along if you didn't), and you could give him a stimpak for his bad leg too. But no, like every distress signal they're long dead and a chance for a small story is wasted
>>333851232
If that shit would be at least like AvP 2
>>333852672
No one cares about weeb shit though
>>333838510
Beaches. In games with gorgeous beaches I always spend some time just enjoying the scenery
Water
>>333845049
Only thing that bugged me was the exxagerated tree sway
Reacting to weather in intelligent ways.
>>333850439
Damn, almost had me hyped.
>>333859884
God, you're a fucking tool.
Think for yourself, don't judge things based on what a group of neckbeards online said.
>>333860797
I stopped being interested in Bioware games after Mass Effect 3.
>>333860797
Not him but I played it and it was exactly like an mmorpg but offline. Collect this, kill this. Graphics were subpar too, and the combat was mehh. I liked dragon age origins combat cause it was tactical but DAI, it being a console game as well, felt casualised. From what I remember, the game forced you to use a controller, and that made the stop time feature in battles irratable.
>>333843238
Game?
>>333852159
Company of heroes 2 did a great job on that
>>333839658
>Try to look straight at character's face
>He keeps turning his head to the side
>>333852048
Man, I love the cloth physics in Bloodborne.
I love when fire can actually spread pretty far from where it starts.
>>333862910
That was exactly the same reaction i had while playing it.
I played nearly all Bioware RPGs:
Baldurs Gate 2 (Both)
Neverwinter Nights (And all Expansions)
KotOR (also KotOR 2)
Jade Empire
Mass Effect 1,2,3
Dragon Age Origins, 2, Inquisition.
Inquisition was the first Bioware game i didn't finish, because it just felt like a generic single player MMO....
I actually had more fun with ToR than Inquisition....
>>333864258
Far Cry 3
