Anyone who claims to beat a Souls or Resident Evil game without a guide is lying.

Heck just finding covenants and many areas requires a guide.
>>
You don't need covenants to finish the game.
>>
Darkwraiths in DS1 maybe, but the rest are nothing special unless you're a scrub.
>>
>>333835063
You dont need a guide for that area. You just look at the particles falling from the ceiling and whether or not they land in front of you.
>>
I didn't even know you could die in Dark Souls when I beat it
>>
I didnt use a guide for the entire game, but I did play almost everything completely blind for every game. Ive mamaged to beat them all.

I'll use a guide if Im completely stuck, or want to find a very specific item or something.
>>
>>333835445
>I don't use guides but I use guides
>>
>>333835321
you could stumble upon it pretty easily though.
the moment you realize you can defeat 4kids right after sif before you place the lordvessel, you're pretty much in the covenant
>>
>>333835063
How was these guides made then?
>>
>the modern gamer is so dumb they can't beat classic RE games without a guide
>>
>>333835063
i finished DS1 yesterday and didnt use a guide, but i did get tips from friends.
that being said, i started ng+ and got to sen's fortress in a few hours. and i'm using an achievement guide now, because i had no fucking idea about things like "you cant talk to frampt to get in this covenant" or kneel in front of gwyndolin's fog gate.

also, i didn;t cheat on my first playthrough, but i'm cheating now. mostly just giving myself souls to upgrade all those goddamned weapons and also giving myself more large titanite shards n shiet

>Resident Evil game without a guide is lying.

Found the casual

And this is why there are no puzzles like RE's Plant 42 chemical puzzle in games anymore, casuals.

tl;dr wait a minute that card is all down to people like you.

Kill yourself
>>
I wouldn't really call it a guide, but I constantly look up progress routes on the wikis. Not because I get stuck or have trouble, but because I'm always paranoid about missing stuff, and if I'm not looking up where to go I'm always worried I could be missing a secret level, and once you're on a wiki, it's very hard to not look up anything else leading to a slippery slope of looking up content. It's happened in all 4 games, but I'm planning on using all of my self control to force myself to stay off of anything Dark Souls 3 related until I beat the game.
>>
>>333835824
I'd be embarrassed if I needed a guide to make the V-Jolt. The chemical combination is literally written on the wall. Or was it in a book? It's been a while.
>>
>>333835063
I hope when you say RE you reference the first one. Only that was hard but even so if you need a guide you are a filthy casual.
>>
>>333835063
I beat RE2 and 4 without any guide, what the fuck are you talking about.

Dark Souls is a convoluted mess though, I agree. The game would be a hundred times better if you could atleast find maps of areas in chests.

It was on the wall. You just had to do basic math. I figured that shit at 8 and autists here can't at all today. There was only one game of that era you needed a guide for and that was Discworld.

>>333835063
>NOOO!!! ALL PLAYERS MUST BE AS BAD AS ME!!!!
Jesus Christ. Also, covenants aren't required, you dumbshit and that stage in your pic isn't even that hard, if you observe first and not be a moron rushing in, you'll see that droplets will splash on the invisible floor.
Goddamn modern gaymers, I guess this is the result of an entire generation being spoiled with their hands being held and playing too much CoD. I hope you're not one of those idiots thinking the souls series is a hardcore game.
>>
>>333836056
Why does it say "You Died" whenever you lose a boss battle?
>>
The only game I refuse to believe people have beaten with a guide is La Mulana.

Resident Evil is pretty easy man Why would you need a guide?
>>
>>333836220
But it really is why, because in Dark Souls if I want to eventually go for 100% achievement I'll have to play 2-3 times on top of that. But yes, that's what I'm going to remind myself to stop myself from using a guide in 3.

Beat bloodborne without a guide.

Beat that nurse thing and Gherman on my first run. Didnt die to either of those. Died a shit ton to other bosses though, mostly Vicar Amelia.

You don't need a guide to finish any of the Souls games

They are however more fun with a guide. The 'exploration' aspect of souls games are easily the worst and least developed part.

/thread

Finding all secrets in these games most likely requires a guide or at least a lot of talking with friends, but beating a souls game isn't that difficult because they're usually pretty linear.

I've beat DeS, DS, and Bloodborne all just by playing the game.

I just played RE1 for the first time through the HD rerelease and what you guys are saying disgusts me. V-JOLT was an enjoyable puzzle and that other one with the billiard balls was pretty cool to. Also, fairly straightforward as fuck but still made you feel like you worked for something. This idea that people are beating these games without guides is very disturbing to me.
>>
>>333837547
Uwotm8? RE6 is even more linear than 5. There's literally zero backtracking and the weapons are all literally in front of you along the way. If you miss any you're just running around like a blind fool.

>>
>>333836827
You see, understanding the basic concept of "You" is not an easy task. It took me 12 hours to find the definition of "You" and what can we do to use it properly. In this case "You" is regarding to your own life form. So when the game said "(you) DIED". It means, you died. But what is "Died?" Before we can get to that it's time to learn about the purpose of life, eternity and the universes...

Nah, man. You are making it too simple. The you can refer either to you as a player, which would make sense, since I am pretty sure the player character isn't seeing giant floating red letters.
Which would mean, you as the player died while playing the game. Which wouldn't even necessarily mean you as a real life human loses life functions, but the you died in the role of the player.

Or it refers to the player character, who is clearly undead in the game, because he is trapped in the curse of undead like most everybody else.

It may be promising to think of YOU DIED, not as died in the meaning of cessation of life, but something metaphysical. For example the phrase "hope dies". No biological death here. But the cessation or suppression of emotion.

The YOU DIED could refer to the death of your driving force of will. Since our character is undead anyway and can't die, his HP should be more a measure of his Willpower to reach his ambition (what keeps most characters from going completely hollo), than of physical health.
>>
Just beating them? Definitely not true. Maybe for not missing any items. Souls isn't that cryptic, RE is sometimes though. I doubt many people used guides for their second souls games once they were comfortable with combat.
>>
But I beat Dark Souls 3 twice now and it's not out in the US and neither is the guide.
Only "help" I got was finding the darkmoon covenant, but I likely would have found it without a guide based on where it's located

Wouldn't the online note system constitute a guide of sorts? Dark Souls is designed around sharing information, so it would be weird not to use any sort of help.

I think anyone that thinks the souls games are difficult needs to be banned from posting online. Its all the same exact shit for every single souls game and even bloodborne. I beat DeS without a guide and only died 9 times and I know that because it actually told you in that game. And DaS1 and 2 I beat dying less than 20 times each and same for bloodborne. These games are seriously 1+1=2 in terms of game design and difficulty.

The only really hidden things are Darkwraiths and Darkmoons. Which are pvp factions anyway.

The first because you have to "sequence break" to join it, the second because it's an item behind an illusory wall that you have to wear at a completely different area.

Only time I've ever actually encountered pure bullshit in a Dark Souls game was in DS2. I was being killed by the poison medusa chick right and left because I had no idea that you were to destroy the windmill with a torch. There were no messages left there or anything to help me figure it out, and I ended up shelving the game for months because I just couldn't beat her otherwise. I highly doubt anyone's honesty when they say they just deduced that with no help whatsoever.
>>
>>333840917

I remember when the game came out my roommate was stuck on the first one of those for like 15 minutes.
>>
>>333845703
I honestly had to summon for her 2 runs before I watched some video that showed you could burn the sails.
>>
>>333840917
Legitimately did those w o guide. No rhyme or rhythm just autistic amounts of trial and error, in all honesty there wasn't THAT much combinations.
>>
>>333835063
To find optional stuff, sure, you'd be hard pressed to find every covenant without a guide.
I used one because I wanted to find the cool optional areas like ash lake.
But to beat the game? You definitely don't need a guide.
>>
>>333845703
That got me too. I played offline. I had a suspicious something was strange with the windmill because I noticed the slight incline toward the base. But when I got close, there was no action pop-up or anything. Typically, when you can interact with an object, the option comes up. Like, even locked doors will ask if you want to open them, before the game informs you that they're locked. Or it will ask if you want to pull a lever, before it informs you that the lever is inactive.

So I figured there would be a pop-up, if I could do anything there. Also, the base was textured metal, so I didn't think it would burn. But honestly, I didn't give fire that much consideration.

Anyway, eventually I figured I was missing something, so I finally broke down and ask /v/ for the solution.
