He has a point. Marketing budgets, and game budgets in general have gotten out of control. So many millions of dollars, man hours, and media hours committed to 6 hour games full of super-duper facial modeling of celebrities and mocap. I don't think anybody actually wanted this. I don't even have "le movie games", I enjoyed a few of them, it's just absurd how much goes into such small full priced games.
Mocap doesn't even fucking look good, while we're on the subject. Halo 5's EPIC fistfight between Franky's bull and the Chief looked like shit. It's supposed to be a wily UNSC manhunter fighting an absolute superhuman of legendary prowess. It looks like two drunks slugging it out in an alley. Spartans are supposed to be FAST, much faster than any mocap could portray. But instead of actually, you know, animating the scene, they slapped some sensors on a couple schmucks and called it a day. And you know that wasn't cheap.
Then they market the living fuck out of the game, I mean, MARKET LIKE NO FUCKING TOMORROW, and the game is short as hell and bland to boot.
Speaking of Halo, the last game to have a stupidly huge marketing campaign that I felt actually lived up to it was Halo 3. I guess it must have set a trend, because at the time it was the largest media release in history, and the hype was so thick you could smell and taste it on the air, and everything after it seemed to have this giant fucking marketing train preceding its release.
I want a game, not a marketing campaign. Whether you love or hate Halo, the massive success of the first two games warranted such a huge marketing campaign, and it paid off. But nowadays, every fucking game has this shit. It's more important than the content of the game from a sales perspective.

The real crime is that professional voice actors get pushed even further into the periphery by this bullshit. They had a bad enough time because of union nonsense and celebrities invading animated film, now great VA's will be pushed aside in vidya in favor of flavor of the month celebs who think they can voice act for some reason.
