Is this any good?
I want to loose myself into a game for awhile. I hear it's very atmospheric and immersive my friend clocked a hundred hours on it, but he's a turd so I don't know what to think.

I feel /v/'s knee jerk reaction is to call it shit, but to those who actually played it what are your thoughts?
>>
pretty goddamn immersive at times

Would you say it's worth it when it's not on sale? Which has been the biggest issue for me to buy now or not.

I can't start an other New Vegas playthrough cause I just finished one.

>The original plan was to launch a 2-hour episode and then continue to expand on it. But you can’t launch a 2-hour game in this competitive, Steam-refund, Youtube-orientated marketplace. So, instead, we’ll be launching Story Mode with the first 2 episodes of our 5-episode Season One, amounting to between 4-6 hours of Story gameplay.

>The original plan was to play the story of Will Mackenzie. Instead, you’ll be playing the story from two points of view — Mackenzie’s, and Dr. Astrid Greenwood. Why add another playable character? Two reasons. The first reason is that it’ll let us tell a better story, the story we really want to tell. The second reason is because it’s 2016 and I have a daughter and she should be able to grow up in a world where she has strong female characters to play and look up to.
>>
I downloaded it and played it for about an hour last night it seems very atmospheric and like a genuine survival game compared to some of the other things available.

I was playing a slightly older build though.

It's entirely unready to be played at this point in time.

Dev spent like 2 days developing in in Unity and hasn't done anything. I know it's early access, but it's VERY early access.

Dev has no plan and no idea and the game is barely a game at this stage. I wouldn't waste your money, but keep tabs on it and check in in a few months to see if the dev flaked or delivered.
>>
>>333749063
Actually this is the only survival game /v/ likes, on account of it being the only one where the focus is actually about surviving a hostile environment instead of goofy pvp or zombies.

It's really good though, just know that it's a lot more about resource management and actual survival than fighting zombies and building a base than other survival games. You'll spend most of your time wandering around looking for supplies you need and hoping you'll find shelter before you become a frozen treat for the wolves.

Maybe this is just confirmation bias, but it feels like more anons get it wrong than right.

These. I've had it since its launch and there has been very little improvement, and very little replay value because of it. You'll get 4 hours out of it maybe

Bully-anon cubes make for tasty soup stock.

Damn it hurts. Last year they got me pretty hyped for upcoming story mode by spring 2016. And then that post happened:

>And now, Spring 2016 is here, and you are waiting for Story Mode. Where is it? It’s been promised to you. You paid your money. Where is your Story Mode? But it’s not ready. And I won’t ship it until it’s ready. So, I’m sorry but you will just have to wait. And I believe, with all my heart I believe, once you get it, you will agree that the wait was worth it.
>>
It's pretty good for a sandbox survival game. I actually like that you cannot survive indefinitely.
>>
>>333753564
Why can't you?
>>
>>333753818

Well there is only so much to loot and resources don't regrow (apart from twigs etc on the ground after a storm). Eventually you have nothing left to repair your stuff or even start fires. You'll get to the point where you can't boil water anymore and die of thirst.
>>
>>333753818

Though I should add that people have survived in-game for more than 500 days.
>>
>>333753564

>you cannot survive indefinitely

Sounds dumb. I don't like 'survival' games where you eventually get everything you need to be self-sufficient and then just sit there until you decide to start again or start some autistic project like a zoo or sumshit, but having nothing to work toward but your own inevitable death is just as bad. If you're going to make a survival game where you can't survive indefinitely, then there should be a win-state that you can work toward.

Hell, I'd say that about every sandbox survival game. Most sandbox survival games aren't challenging enough to be a fun game but throw too many stupid obstacles in your way to be a fun creative toy.
>>
>>333754490

Well it's sandbox mode, the story mode with a defined win goal is coming. The game is in beta, so you gotta decide if you think it's worth buying now or waiting till it's done.
>>
>loose myself
how about you noose yourself instead my man
>>
>>333749063
I had a bit of an issue with degradation rate on things that should last much, much longer. Otherway is nice if you are into survival.

Also, fucking surprise backstabing wolves.
>>
>>333753564
I'm at three hundred and twenty something day in sandbox. That had to have taken me 70 hours to do. You really don't want to last indefinitely.

>>333749063
Yeah it's good. I normally hate survival games but this one can be both intense and comfy at the same time.
>>
My biggest gripe with the game right now is that there are no proper light sources for when you just want to comfy up in your shelter while a storm is raging outside.

For $20 it's not bad. I would say get it.
>>
>>333754631

Whether I buy it after release depends on what the object ends up being, but nah, I'm not buying a pure sandbox game.

Thank goodness that the wind doesn't move objects.

I love this game, I don't give a fuck what /v/ says. 200 days survived on this character, stalker difficulty. Have all the achievements, explored all the maps and climbed Timberwolf Mountain. So if there's anything you wanna know op ask me

Pic related is where I bunker down when I'm not roaming the maps. GOAT base

It sucks to start at but it's a great place to mule all your items to and set up shop.
>Workbench that is indoors
>Mostly flat grounds so you can see all the wolfs

>plenty of lumber

>>333757590
You should hide in the dam, you will be totally safe there from us

Damn that's a comfy ass cabin. must be a pain in the ass to relocate all your items too though.
>>
>>333749063
of course not, it's a padding on top of padding with zero gameplay added for good measure. and padding is copypasted.

I built big stashes in each area and then transferred the stash to the next area. I only really made two trips from pleasant valley farm to trapper's homestead, I didn't feel like bringing everything so I just brought the rare items and matches and things like that. I think I still have a full set of wolf/deer gear and a bear bedroll in the gas station that I didn't feel like bringing.

>>333758896
Go fuck yourself with your Dwarf Fort ego, I play it and Long Dark, as well as other games like everyone else on /v/. Fortress mode is more of a city building game than a survival game, Adventure mode isn't that satisfying to me. I usually find NetHack and Brogue more satisfying as far as fantasy survival adventure goes. Cataclysm is far more in depth than adventure mode as far as survival games go. Sometimes you don't want to look at asci or tiles and want a fully 3D, first person experience.
