Yesterday we experienced one of the most important moments in spaceflight in years.
What games are you playing to celebrate?

Miggy's home run ball finally came down?

Anything but Kerbal space program is the wrong answer

What happened? I don't watch the news. Vertical landing of a rocket? Space X or NASA?
>>
>>333731041
They haven't released 1.1 yet, so I'm just patiently waiting.
It hurts so much, I just want to play some KSP.

Space X landed the first stage of a rocket on a drone ship in the ocean.
They've already landed one on land before (that was one of their recent launches), but this is a huge deal because it means you can get things into even higher orbits with even larger payloads due to not having to use fuel to manipulate your horizontal velocity like you do to get back to land.
I'd say that the first landing a few months ago was the biggest spaceflight event in decades, this is the second-biggest.

>engineers can vertically land rockets on a tiny pad floating in the ocean
>police still can't win the war on drugs
LMAO

Neat. One step closer to sustainable space travel. NASA are you even trying?
>>
>amerilards actually believe 'they' went to the moon
>everyone has fallen for the spherical earth meme

That piece of shit rocket can't pass through the firmament. It's all an act.

They definitely are. The Space Launch System isn't going to be reuseable, but it is going to be the best rocket since the Saturn V in terms of how efficient it is and how much it can get into orbit. Not only that, but the Orion capsule is in to heavy development, they're working on huge scientific projects like the James Webb Space Telescope, and they're part of the people that are funding Space X and Boeing for their projects that are supposedly "beating NASA".
We're all in it together for space travel, let's not try to throw a war into something where there can be cooperation.

Into the trash it goes.
Literally.

I'm just poking fun, anything that gets us up there better is good. I really hope I live long enough to be able to visit.

I so hope I get to see a manned Mars mission in our life time.

Oh shit did that rocket just land on a fucking aircraft carrier and not fall over?

Fuck that's awesome!

same here. that 64 bit performance increase gets me wet

Meanwhile, you get two inches of snow in Georgia and the bottom of a hill becomes an automobile salvage yard. All our best engineers are in the wrong industry. How about instead of spending billions of dollars dicking around in space doing useless shit, they focus all their money and brainpower on problems that actually fucking matter.
>>
>>333734223
yeah making century old technology work a little better in the snow that only happens once every two years is a great way to spend time and money
>>
>>333734223
Brah, we already found a fix for that. The google smart car. Its not the cars fault the driver is retarded and impatient.
>>
>>333734223
And they do. Barely anyone does space mission now. Nasa focuses most of their funding on ground-based research in the areas of polymers and fuel alternatives, barely any of it is spent on actually building a ship.

Even the clip op posted is only significant because it allows engineers to recycle ships.

SpaceX only manages to do these missions because they sell trips to orbit to millionaires and pornstars looking for a good time.

really? doesn't this only make it a little less expensive over the long term
>>
>>333736641
The biggest barrier to space travel is that we still don't have a space SHIP, which means every time we go up we have to build another rocket. Being able to land a rocket is a really good first step toward being able to reuse them.
