I'm always surprised that warlock isn't more popular, he's kinda like rubick in that you can support on him or mid (rip rubick mid and rip rubick in general, used to play nothing but him) but a huge aoe ult, and a generally strong toolkit

Only these effects have a big influence on gameplay. Not only that they changed the amount of experience you get from killing heroes vs farming.
Used to be you could farm your way back into the game if your team didn't do so well early game.
Nowadays If you have a bad early game it's pretty much over.
I enjoyed it more back then. Those comebacks were epic.

just a lot stronger heroes for his role. spectre and zeus being super popular doesn't help because rubick is squishy and both of these heroes have the ability to do huge chunks of essentially unavoidable damage that really screw you up. theres a lot of power creep in dota and rubick hasn't been buffed for ages and he's not really got weaker, just everyone else has got a lot stronger
