With 15 coming out I was wondering if I should actually /start/ and /where/
Are they just outdated garbage now is is seven ACTUALLY as good as people say (not asking for le epic final fantasy fan cloud daki superfan's opinion)

4, 5, 6, 7, and 9 are all great
1, 3, 8 and 10 are ok, 10-2 has a great battle system but the worst fucking plot holy shit.
2 is decent with the psp remake but normally its garbage
12 and 13 are trash, 11 and 14 are MMO and dont matter unless you like MMOs
15 isnt out so i dunn
Crystal Chronicles with multiplayer is the best FF ever
The essentials are 4, 6, and 7. All of them are pretty beginner friendly.

VII is still a very solid game, but if you've never played a FF game, I'd honestly suggest IX.
VII is a better game in my opinion, but IX is basically FF distilled into its purest form.

Depend on what you're looking for.
Personally, I started with 9, and it's my favorite of the series. I can see its flaws, most notably that the combat is pretty slow, but the characters, story, and music more than make up for it, along with a ton of side activities to dabble in.
7 is also good if you can look past the admittedly dated graphics. The Materia system is pretty neat, and while the story never really gets as good as 9 IMO, it's still a fun ride.
10 is often recommended by a lot of people, and it's also a solid entry, even though it's significantly more linear than most preceding FF games.
Also consider one of the Tactics games if you like strategy games. FFT, FFTA, and FFTA2 all have their fans and their haters for various reasons, but they all have their merit.Don't bother with Dissidia or Theatrhythm or any of those games, they're made for fans and contain lots of non-cheesecake fanservice.

VII is great to start with if you don't usually play RPGs since the focus is more on characters and story development, and the battle system is easy to use. I'd say they're about the same.

FF is still a great JRPG series but has its ups and downs. FF IV, VI, VII, IX, and maybe X are some of the more popular ones for good reason. You can start with whatever one you want since they're all more or less self contained outside of X-2 and the Lightning shit. Some are better than others, but other than maybe the Lightning stuff they all have something to offer. Honestly, if you're interested in XV just play XV. It's gonna be its own story with gameplay totally unrelated to most of the games.

Personally I loved it but that's partly nostalgia, also pic related is the first vidya boner I've ever had so the game holds a special place in my heart
