The weapons aren't even the ones from the game. The chaingun fires for like 3 seconds. The BFG shoots superheated boogers instead of an energy charge that desintegrates every fucker in the room
The thing with Alien and Aliens is that the first movie rode mainly on the suspense and mystery of the Xenomorph. You don't know what it fully looks like, you don't know what it's capable of: it's new and it's exciting. For the second film, this shock factor was gone, since you're already familiar with the monster. So what's left? Make the aliens into a horde and provide simple, yet efficient action sections.
