What are some really fun games on steam that you stumbled upon or have known about that are not AAA or popular or many dont talk about?

also if this thread gets out of hand with weeaboo shit and animu dating sims ill sage this thread myself
>>
FTL may not be obscure enough for what you're looking for, but it really is a fantastic game. I just wish there were more games like it.

>so if this thread gets out of hand with weeaboo shit and animu dating sims ill sage this thread myself
Stellar start.
I'll do you a favor and start myself.

Revolver360 / SHMUP
Tower Of Guns / Random FPS level climber.
Toy Soldiers / GOAT TD / not really a hidden gem though.
Orcs Must Die is fun. / TD
Sine Mora / SHMUP
Fortix is a simple and fun puzzler where you draw lines to conquer territories.
Hard Reset / scifish FPS
Reassembly / build your own spaceship from basic shapes and concquer a giant map / can also command fleets. p.fun
>>
Most of these are probably not "hidden" enough for your criteria, but I rarely/never hear about them on /v/.

Freedom Planet
Mark of the Ninja
Wings of Vi
Orcs Must Die! 2
Don't Starve
Legend of Grimrock 1 and 2
X3: Terran Conflict and/or X3: Albion Prelude
Torchlight 2
Trine 2

AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! – A Reckless Disregard for Gravity

Apparently it's been around for like, 6 years, but I've never heard of it. Bought it for two bucks the other day.

It's a 3D base jumping game where you fall from a fuckhuge height, try and get close to a bunch of buildings without hitting them, collect points, and do all that kind of shit.

It's a pretty much arcade game, and it's got a weird as hell style and tone.

It's alright. It's a survival crafting game, so you should already know what to expect.
>They really need to fix enemy animations, and hitboxes.
>Armor doesn't really do much and needs to be buffed.
>PvP is currently really bad.
>Underground bases absolutely make players safe from hoards.
>Hoards need to have better AI when there's multiple players in different areas. As in they seem to target specific players and leave the others completely alone.
>Weapons need upgrades besides giving them better parts to boost their accuracy, damage, and range.
>The bow needs to have arrows that actually travel at a speed that you track with your eye, and they need to increase the range before they drop off at. Because currently they go about 10 feet and just drop like a rock. They also shoot off center of the crosshair.
They do update their shit though.

It's okay and has its issues. You need a group of pals to get the best experience.

Wings of Vi is one of my favorite games.

Most people can't handle the difficulty and disregard the whole game as unfair bullshit, and I thought that's how it was gonna be for me, as I hate retarded hard platformers like I Wanna Be The Guy.

But it just feels so right, I can't even explain it.
The controls are tight, the boss fights are so satisfying to improve at, respawning is as instant as Super Meat Boy so any section with a trial and error aspect doesn't become too frustrating, there's also minimal RNG elements
I dunno, I love it.

Guns of Icarus

Just buy it. Stop whatever you're doing and buy it. It's one of the few multiplayer games with an actually (mostly) polite and mature community. It's a shame it isn't more popular. Fuck CS and LoL, if any game deserves competitions around it, this game should be it. It requires actual teamplay and strategy, and as long as you're not an autistic bitch and can't follow or give basic orders, you're going to have a blast provided you get into a game. The player base is way to small for such a great game.

Obscure:

Extremely competent RE clone (without tank controls), on the proviso that you ditch the AI using the "stay here" command while at the gathering point.

Don't play the sequel.

Cold Fear:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/15270/

Proto Dead Space, call it Dead Sea.

No provisos about this one, it's just plain good. Don't ever, ever play it on Extreme.

Arx Fatalis:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/1700/

Fantastic RPG. If you liked Deus Ex or VTMB, this is something you want to give a try. Features a fight with the worst-animated dragon of all time.

Tips for spell casting: keep it small, right-angled, and to the middle of the screen.

These games are all a bit old, a bit jank, but I loved them and they all went under the fucking radar, check them out.

It's a very tactical game and pretty slow paced, not your average CoD match. You have to think and play accordingly. I didn't mean this in an offensive way, the CoD comparison was meant jokingly. GoI not everyone's cup of tea, but everyone should definitely give it a shot. The combat can actually get very intensive too, as long as you're playing it right. It's half-dead though but you can still find plenty of games. The half-deadness is kind of why people should play it more.

You pretty much have to be able to enjoy fangames in order to enjoy this. It's deeply rooted in that same design philosophy. But if you can get behind that "masochist mindset" it has some amazingly designed levels with every area having unique challenges and platforming mechanics. Nothing in the game feels samey.

Its other major downfall is that the game is short on content for something that's priced at $15. It only has 6 areas and 13 bosses. You could get Super Meat Boy for less than that and it has many times more content. I'd wait for it to go on sale before giving it a try.

Roguelike with an anime/JRPG style. Very comfy, very addicting. Has an expansion and now a sequel is in the works.
>Duck Game
One hit one kill 2D multiplayer action game. Great if you've got some friends, otherwise don't bother.
>Zeno Clash 1/2
First person beat-em-ups made in Source. 1 is kind of rough but 2 is pretty great. Both games are downright bizarre in terms of setting and aesthetics.
>Botanicula
That one game from Anamita nobody remembers, overshadowed by Samorost and Machinarium. It's a point and click adventure starring weird little forest sprites trying to save the forest they live in from being destroyed. Very charming, puzzles are pretty easy though.
>Knytt Ungerground
The third Knytt game, if you liked Knytt Stories it's more of the same. If not, it's an exploration game with Metroidvania-esque item collection and lite platforming. Very ambient mood.

Frozen synapse

It's a strange mix of real time and turn based tactics

You have a phase where you can tell your men what to do, and you can try and plan what your opponent will do, moving both around and playing the results out, eventually you have to pick what you actually want to do play out those results

It had multiplayer, but it's probably dead now.
