Shelly did all that though. Engarde sorta had the right idea about taping Shelly's actions even if he didn't realize how horribly that would backfire.
Adrian was the one who ruined everything by planting the evidence. Shelly had to resort to an emergency slipshod backup plan that had no guarantee of working and Engarde couldn't do anything at all to change the course of events. He was at the mercy of the lawyers and Shelly.
