City in yellow has much more access to resources, pick yellow
>>
>>333617497
This is correct.
>>
>>333617497
You circled over some useless fish, but otherwise you're right.
I'd make two cities though if there aren't better spots up north
>>
>>333617497
Yellow does not has new luxuries, and the silk is outside of his capital's range, while blue has 2 luxuries with silk included.
But he should go blue because it has a lot more food

Also the blue city can't reach the lower fish, he would have to settle in the forest
>>
>>333618126
Capital can still get hapiness from the luxury since it's in the borders.
It's just that you can't work it, but it's a shit tile anyway
>>
>>333618105
>useless
>fish

>>333618126
He can trade the luxuries though
>>
>>333617497
I would settle in the marked forest. you won't be able to work the silk but it's a shit tile anyway and a fish tile is great after a lighthouse.
>>
>>333618386
If the fish is 3 tiles away from the city it's useless
>>
If aiming for two cities, which would work?

Also do you guys sometimes overlap city governance, especially if it has a valuable resource?

>>333618423
now that I think about it, are there plantation resources that don't give shitty food/coin?
>>
>>333618498
Oh that's what you meant

I don't now why I circled that
>>
>>333618267
>>333618423
Why is it a shit tile?
>>
>>333618498
>If the fish is 3 tiles away from the city it's useless
What the fuck? Pretty sure yield is the same.
>>
>>333618423
Can't get the silk anyway unless he captures Karakorum. That, or steals the land with a general.
>>
>>333618534
It can be okay mid-late game for gold, but it provides no food without fertilizer so it doesn't help with growth
>>333618695
But you can't work it if it's outside the 3 tile range
>>
I'd go with the hills with forest to the right of the settler. Access to spices, and to wheat and iron. Fast growth through sea trade routes.
>>
>>333618423
You would get 2 fish tiles actually which is even better. I'd definitely go for the forest.

>>333618534
1 tile with 3 food 3 gold after fertilizer

versus

2 tiles with 4 food 2 hammer 1 gold with a lighthouse and seaport
>>
>>333618740
Anon, he's Mongolia. He owns Karakorum

>>
>>333619042

>>
>>333618105

>useless
Fish are actually second best resource, next only to salt. I guess wheat on river is also comparable.
>>
>>333618781
>But you can't work it if it's outside the 3 tile range
If he settles in the forest he can reach them, he misses the silk wich is objectively shittier
>>
>>333619180
I prefer Tradition, but there's some times when Liberty is appropriate. It has strong early-mid game production/religious game but falls behind by Industrial.
>>
>>333614675
Not wanting to:

>Construct great phallic monuments
>Explore the world for tit shaped mountains
>Watch barbarian units dominate helpless workers
>Burn down the neighbour Loli-Kingdom

It's like you don't want to have fun.
>>
>>333610658
Whatever you do, make sure you have access to that salt up there.
Salt is fuckin OP, only way to build a mine and get food from it.
>>
>>333619216
It's useless because it can't be worked if he settles in the marked spots
>>333619312
Yeah, less initial production, but might be worth settling there regardless
>>
>>333619216
>I guess wheat on river is also comparable.
Wheat on flood plains nigga
Get Petra and you become food Jesus
>>
>>333610658
I would build either on coast, the bottom right suggestion right above sheep - in range of: iron sheep cows cinnamon fish + lots of coast and nice defense area

or the suggested area on the left if you need the luxury and more iron but would have to spread fast

I would choose my first option, gl
>>
>>333619438
petra doesn't affect food plain tiles tho

>>333619324
I feel like Liberty is only good for the free worker and settler

>>333619429
salt is pretty much OP, seriously, food, gold and hammer?
>>
>>333610658
Place one city on the coast two tiles from the bison in the west, place another on the hill just south of where your settler is now, and place a third city on the hill just southeast of that southernmost salt.
>>
>>333619586
Nooo
Aren't flood plains also desert tiles?
This is silly
>>
>There are people who play on strategic balance for resources
Just imagine, you live in the same world as these people.
>>
>>333619672
yeah, but petra specifically says "food plains are unaffected"

>>333619702
nigga I play abundant because I want to amass huge armies
>>
>>333619672
Petra explicity ignores flood plains, says so in the description.
Petra is god tier because it makes desert hills 3 production/1 food without any resources or improvements.
>>
>>333619702
I don't get that.

Dealing and warring for resources you don't have is really great.

>There are people on /v/ that don't play archipelago maps with minimum land
>>
>>333619216
Fish are good but not that good, because to reach their full tile potential you need to sink hammers into lighthouse and seaport. Salt is amazing right from the get-go. Resources like cows that don't require buildings or ones that unlock them like ivory or marble are what I tend to give priority to in city placement.
>>
>>333611639
The only idea I have for sex mods is replacing the defeated civ dialogue with something that implies that they are now your sex slave... or at least more so than Catherine the Great already does.
>>
>>333619807
There's also the added complexity of needing to found cities in areas you normally wouldn't, such as desert for fucktons of oil or tundra for uranium resources.
>>
I just got the Praise the Victories and Ottoman Carpentry Steam achievements. I'm scared of attempting Pax Romana Aeternum.
>>
>>333619827

>I feel like Liberty is only good for the free worker and settler

The settler production boost and the early great person (pretty much always a scientist) are crucial to Liberty early game.

I feel like Liberty tends to have a harder time of the game overall because of the choices you have to make. If you have 2 hours to listen to someone talk about Civ, this guy does a great job of explaining things. He does videos for multiplayer Civ, but this one is also applicable to singleplayer pretty much entirely.

>>333620134
But I don't play as Britain.

May as well cheat.
>>
>>333619987
There is also the added complexity of being fucked in the ass by not getting any coal or oil on the entire continent and having to settle some shitty ass colony 100 tiles away.
>>
>>333620125
You are missing the point. It would be hard to implement anything else.
>>
>>333619874
I guess it's not fair to compare luxury resources to bonus resources, so I'll say horses/stone instead of ivory/marble.
>>
>>333620269
>>333620134
I thought if you scare away britbong with polynesians very early (the time before they can use their uu) you can control them easily
>>
>>333620273
Yeah?
Make trade deals, settle colonies, or deal with it, what's the point of even having strategic resources if everyone has them in the exact same amount?
>>
>>333620268
I tried playing liberty but it's really hard and random to pull off. You need to have spots for at least 6 decent cities to be even comparable to 4 city tradition, and probably need like 7-8 good spots to actually benefit from choosing it over tradition. Good luck finding that many on settler7+ difficulties.

>>333620434
Both of Britain's unique units are monstrously good. With one coming in at Medieval and the other at Renaissance., I would think of them as more a mid-game threat than early.
>>
>>333620732
>unwanted
>great people
???
Great tile improvements on strategic resources/every fuckin' tile.
>>
>>333620891
that's what I meant though, threaten them before they reach their potential
>>
>>333619827
Problem with archipelago (and all the other water maps) is that AI can't do naval combat for shit, so the game becomes ridiculously easy even on deity.
>>
>>333620002
I kind of wish I had gotten more achievements before Community Patch mods. There is no going back now.
>>
>>333620891
>spamming a fuckton of longbowmen and then upgrading you so you have range 2 gattling guns and machine guns
so good
>>
>>333620948
I guess unwanted is harsh, I mean something like you have nothing to do with them since they pile up really fast pre-industrial

I guess spamming holy sites should be the key
>>
>>333620514
That's why you kill a tradition civ and take their cities.
>>
I'm still waiting for some good mods before going back to Civ 5. It has a lot of potential, but I'd love to see ambitious stuff like Fall from Heaven, (a far less bloated) Cavemen2Cosmos etc
>>
>>333620002
Ottoman Carpentry was so easy. I don't know why other people don't have it.

Great Generals win that mode so easily.
>>
>>333621368
Have you tried the Community Patch mods? They significantly alter units available, civ specials, the tech tree, and more. Also I recommend ethnic units.

The key is getting a tonne of gold from peace deals, selling cities to Egypt, and taking out Ethiopia entirely. My first playthrough I was so obsessed with keeping France from wiping me out that I failed to take Ethiopia before the end. I just needed maybe 5 or 6 more turns. I reloaded from turn 45 and started my war against Ethiopia 5 or 6 turns earlier with a lot more units. I had to settle for some paultry peace deals and had to give up land to France to ensure they didn't make it to the Mediterranean, but I got the achievement.

Praise to the Victories was pretty harrowing though. I moved all my cities northward into teh mountains. I didn't settle for five turns. I lost initially to Ethiopia, who I hadn't even met. I reloaded and went full culture by sacrificing unit production and won through.
