Why do people praise this garbage engine?
I mean it was cool in 2004, but making maps for it and having to compile lighting for it is a fucking bitch these days.
Okay, I guess?
Why are you posting this when Source 2 is right around the corner?

they don't. 99% of positive comments about source are from players who can't differentiate between engine tech and art design. nobody who actually uses source praises source.
because memes
why do people praise any engine?

You sound incredibly pretentious
Mostly for the mod scene, which is derived mostly from the GoldSrc modding scene rather than any good qualities Source has. It's still miles better than any 'modern' engine like Unity, but it's so outdated and so bugged that anyone other than Valve themselves has long given up on using it.
Here's hoping Source 2 fixes those problems without changing the feel of the movement and the physics and not making everything feel so goddamn floaty and bloated like every other engine currently on the market.

i like the console, and how it has shared commands across games
source games have a good level of providing customization with the console without being impenetrable
