Rust is still a game about human nature. No rules. Only what the game puts there. The gimmick is near total player freedom, the game does not force you to do anything except eat and drink occasionally. Yet what do people do? Grab power. Do they need to? No, food is plentiful. Yet it's the one asshole who might spoil it for us that stops that from happening. It's a human nature simulator, and I feel like the race thing might be there to encourage discrimination - when it first came out players were going around hunting blacks, and it was gloriously absurd.
Anyway, they added races to differentiate different players. This way you can tell people apart. If they let you pick, you could change your model and fool people. This way, it ensures that people mostly all look different. That's why.

I dont care what anyone says, Rust is a pretty good early access game.
It stands out from DayZ and other survival games because is more arcady and silly as fuck in all aspects.
It receives updates each week adding new shit.
The new XP system seems to remove the grind and those fucks seems to have an idea of what they want Rust to be, but either way i win in both cases cause some guy from /v/ gifted the game to me, so it might baised.
