You are probably right from a console perspective, especially with the Wii U. I'll make the case for it for the NX.
1. Assuming Nintendo is unifying Console/Portable, second screen on the controller means we'll have a DS again. The DS is FANTASTIC: having a second screen is perfect for extra information, and means you keep your neck in a comfortable position because controls are beneath the main screen.
2. Developers don't like spending time on a second screen that only applies to one port, but what if it applies to two? If everything on the NX console can be played on played on the NX portable, they hit two audiences with one design.
3. ARM SoCs are cheap and powerful enough to easily trounce Wii U's PowerPC architecture.
