1. Grandia
2. Xenogears(gameplay shows its age more than it should, but the story is great) personally, I like the combined xenosaga trilogy more
3. Thousand Arms (not gotyay, but it's distinct amingst jrpgs released in the west, even if ps1 rpgs in japan like this were a dime a fucking dozen)
4. Rhapsody A Musical Adventure, where cutscenes are voiced musical numbers. The songs are really fun and its a good dub for something so explicitly campy
5. Koudelka. Why the fuck this never made it to psn i dont know. Distinct jrpg+survival horror that is way better planned than parasite eve was.
6. D. Another distinct horror game. You'll probably fucking hate it. It's like 4 discs for two hours of content at most. It's an fmv game.

Unpopular opinion here: also try out Alundra 3. It's a bit frustrating to play (and about as triggering to big Alundra 1 fans as Chrono Cross is to Chrono Trigger fans).
I had fun with it. Bosses are frustrating but, while the story/mood are different, I think the dungeon exploring fun from the first game translates into 3d quite well in the second.
