Thats the best part. There is SO much shit going on with the water, the collapsing towers, the trees in the jungle have light rays modeled, the speed of it all, the explosions and detail in the water, the waterfall. Its an amazing sight to see a puny console handle so many effects and vistas at once but its admirable too

You're correct, he was the technical mastermind of the Hedgehog Engine, he also directed Unleashed and man I loved his directing, the plot in the game feels just the right amount of light and serious, even if I think Sonic Colors and Generations are fine games, I think the plot and overall tone took a nosedive.
It saddens me that Sonic Team got rid of boost.

Holy fuck i knew he engineered the hedgehog engine but i had no idea he was also the director of unleashed. What an amazing mind, the plot and pacing of unleashed are fantastic and the height of the series storytelling. Its like you said: beautiful cgi at the opening to setup the plot and give reason why youre racing around the world to collect emeralds and restore temples, banter with chip, tails, and pickle and eggman getting taunted by his own assistant but still maniacal and scheming for the middle of the game, and a grand finale oh shits getting real with a final battle at the core of the earth. Thats what i miss the most in the recent sonic games: a cohesive world with a reason for playing.

I don't really mind the attempted tone of the current games, but it's clear the writers are not good enough to make it worthwhile and it'd probably be worse if they attempted anything more serious with the current writing staff.
