Lightning is the best character in the world in my opinion. She should be the lead character of every title we make from now on. She is perfect in every way. She is cool, calm, and has a great sense of humor. Sometimes I think people hate her because she saved the Final Fantasy series, those haters just want the series to die. But truly, she is the greatest thing to happen to the series since it began. If I could go back in time and change everything about FF1, I'd have it titled Lightning Forever. FFVII will forever (or at least seem to be) be overrated due to its time and place of coming out with 3d graphics and cinematics, more than actual quality of storytelling and characterization.

It's not a matter of wrong or right. The depth and "relatability", or uniqueness of characters is largely a subjective thing. But line up the cast for VII's predecessor, FFVI, where they came from and their motivations, vs the main antagonist.
And contrast it with VII's cast and main antagonist. One seems a lot more diverse adult and fleshed out than the other. (hint: it's not the one with eye catching boobs, spikes, big swords, or darkness),

Kefka was a shit antagonist tbqh. Say what you will about momma's boy Sephiroth, but Kefka is just an edgy "DURR IM THE BIG BAD AND I DO BAD THINGS BECAUSE IM THE BIG BAD" joker ripoff with even less depth. Of course all the edgy kids loved him because he blew up the planet, the same kids who love the even more overrated Frieza.
Also Terra wasn't that much better than Cloud, and didn't have much of a personality beyond being another special snowflake with amnesia.

I'm sorry that you are so mistaken. Not that Kefka isn't a big clowny nihilist, but that he is somehow edgier than what fanboys from any angle could call a momma's boy, with a huge katana. I mean come the fuck on.
Kefka is pure looney existential angst with no emotional attachment or basis, which makes him unhinged and less "talk out of it" than most. Joker is a great villiain, so is he.
Terra has an identity crisis based on two lineages and being a complete hybrid anomaly, was controlled and likely abused for serval years before trying to run with a crew who wanted to help her find herself. She eventually doesn't care about expectations, her one half-love interest dies, and she decides to mother over a ton of children and teens.
And this is comparable to the best presentation anyone could give Cloud/Sephiroth? I mean, I hate to get swept into the cliche debate, but really?
