Why does this game get so much hate?

Same i bought rare replay purely for the classics like Banjo, Conker and Perfect Dark but Grabbed by the ghoulies was pretty good too.

It fell fate to being a rushed game.
I can guarantee you if they had an extra year to work on it it would've been a rare classic, but what we got was still a good game.

I dunno, I distinctly remember reading about it in some game mag at the time and they said it was pretty cool.
mind you, I never did have an Xbox, even though I wanted one, so I never did get to play it

Because it's a whacky funhouse simulator on a platform that was advertising itself as a serious machine for serious people with titles like Blood Wake and Halo.
Then Rare comes right up behind them with GOOGLY-EYED GOOFY MANIAC-MANSION SIMULATOR. Proudly displayed alongside MIcrosoft's own 'Xbox is a mature platform for mature people' advertisement campaigns.
If you get the Rare collection, there's a part in there that explains it better.
That's primarily why people hated it.Also the gameplay was kinda boring

They got 'Teen' ratings in some countries on Conker's Bad Fur Day by just describing it as a squirrel going on adventures.

To be fair, Microsoft didn't know what fucking niche the Xbox was gonna fall in, and that's the primary reason why it possibly had THE most variety of exclusives of all 6th gen consoles. For fuck's sake, it's called the fucking X BOX, that alone gave consumers no fucking clue what to expect.
It just so happened that Halo stuck, there's probably an alternate reality where the Xbox's niche was getting the best Japanese action games on the market. There's an alternate reality where Blinx and that rat game by Natsume stuck, and the Xbox was the actual kiddy console.
