Never going to happen. There will always be a large enough group of players who like games that are grindy, long term investments. MMO players are notorious for jumping ship to try new MMOs seeking out the next big one. There are way more MMOs available now compared to 10 years ago, and you have franchises like Pokemon who still have that shit in their back pocket if and when Nintendo ever decides to just take over the world completely. MMO games are far too addictive to disappear from gaming. More people have died for this genre of games than any other. For some people these types of games are quite literally the best thing in their lives.
I think you have to come up with a more niche genre of games, like car battle games a la Twisted Metal.

I don't think this is a dead genre. It might not be as prevalent anymore, but people will eat up a new God of War game. As long as you have franchises like that still coming out with new stuff it'll probably be fine.

How do you define an RPG? Something like Baldur's Gate or FFVI? Those games have been dead for over 10 years. KOTOR is one of the last ones I can think of that had real success, especially in the west. RPG games still do fine because of Japan and a niche market in the West, but they've pretty much been replaced by the more action orientated stuff like Mass Effect, Elder Scrolls and Witcher.
