You should play Vesperia or Abyss. Now those are good Tales games with actual good main characters.

The only problems it has is frame rate drops whole artemized with Mikleo, camera issues in tight spaces, and convoluted skills/item system. Everything else was ok and overall I liked it.
For me it was DmC and they still try to.
