To be honest, Mega Man Legends wasn't that great.

Oh sure, it was the first one to do really decent 3D controls with a moveable camera on the PS1. And yes, the cast of characters and voice acting were great. But the controls themselves were fairly awkward, lock-on was spotty for anything other than kiting, and replaying it the dungeons did feel kind of dull.

It's still a decent game, 7/10 or so, but it's not the amazing quality that most people remember it to be.

Shit? no. It's a good game. It has a lot of charm, but also has some problems. If you stick with it, you will have a good time, But it's understandable if you cannot get past things like controls. However to call it shit is ludicrous. You don't have to like the game, to admit it's a decently made game, that just might not appeal to you.

Moving around with the L buttons takes 3 minutes tops to get used to

The first game had a lock-on of sorts. It would center the camera toward whatever enemy was closest to you, but it would also lock your movement and force you to stand in place.

The second game changed that so that you could move while locked on. It also added a little targeting icon to indicate which enemy you were locked onto.

the story to legends 2 didn't lend itself to have one big hub city filled to the brim with characters, secrets, and different sights to explore like legends 1

instead legends 2 just had several smaller towns with less depth character, and memorability almost no reason to come back once you beat the main dungeon aside from mini digsites, and story revisits

I liked shit like the first snowy town and nino city
but the forbidden island was dissapointing as fuck and the cities themselves didn't really come close to character of sub cities by them selves in my opinion

Did you never try running and gunning? In Mega Man Legends 1 every single boss, aside from ones like the big frog robot and the battle against the Gescelschaft where you're confined to one spot, could be beaten by running in a circle and shooting. Even Juno goes down to it really easily, both forms.

I agree with you, I wish that the towns in Legends 2 felt as developed and involved as Kattleox Island's town was. Granted, yeah, because of the way the story was set up, things got spread around a lot, which was unfortunate.

It was sort of neat to visit different environments though. I always give Yosyonke's music a listen whenever it snows around here.

I actually completed this as a kid.
At first I thought the controls were clunky, but I got used to them.

The only lingering complaint I had was the shitty "fog" that was always there. Which today I understand to be view/render distance.

While I agree about the tutorial thing, nearly every game of that era suffered from the same problem. Mario 64 had tutorial boxes too. Even Super Mario World did. No one encountered control schemes or 3D spaces like that before. Each time a new generation begins you encounter a similar trend. It wasn't until 6th or 7th gen or so when the tutorial shit got really out of hand.

Control wise, it does not hold up too well.

I just switched turning to the D pad and L/R to straffing and it helps aliviate the controls.

Legends 2 improved it. Still not as good as it could have been, but it's serviceable for a PS1 game
