>you need to watch an entire separate anime series to understand the game

When has this been the case?

>main bad guy gets killed in a comic book no one reads
>>333391345final fantasy xv
>>333391427
>one of the main characters dies off-screen in between movies
>>333391345
Arguably the hack. series
>>333391938
>one of the main characters leaves during a cartoon adaptation of a movie and it's canon in the next movie

Gungrave, though the anime came later.
>>333391254
>game starts in media res from where the comic book left off on a cliffhanger
>>333392078
Gungrave was a 9/10 animu though, everyone should watch it.
>>333392030
Eh, //SIGN and the //INFECTION games were fairly self-contained, and you didn't need to watch the anime for anything other than to understand some throwaway references and cameos. //GU was a bit weirder, though, since there were a lot of character introductions and lore that don't make a lot of sense without watching //ROOTS, but watching that before finishing the games will spoil some big third-act reveals. It's a bit of a mess.
>>333392319
It was actually much better than the games, the latter could easily be skipped, since they were just mediocre pre-Gears of War third-person shooters. Although the first and last couple of episodes would be goofy as shit if you didn't know the series was based off a game.
>>333392319
Is that the one by the guy who made Trigun?
>>333392030
nah, you didn't need to do that at all.
>>333392070
>main character comes back to life in the sequel only to accidentally die in the dumbest way possible in a book the writer churned out without much thought
>>333391254
>playing a game based on an anime
>hurr why do I have to see the anime to understand what's going on durrr

Dangit Ronpaul is doing it soon.

Quantum Break

>Main character dies in a book
>>333392529
Probably the best vidya adaptation and its lowpoint is reminding you of the source material. Can't find another anime that comes close to the mafia arc, and that's tragic.
>>333392539
Sure he did character design at the very least, he's got such a distinctive style.
>>333393556
That's more like "you need to play an entire separate game series to understand the anime"
