HL2 came along and really changed things. It REALLY made us see how a game should be. But that's in the past and I doubt valve could pump anything out that will capture the same feel or even give you the same high. It's going to be alright but at least it will finish the story.

You know why games like half life seem generic and derivative in hindsight?
Because they were so fucking good all the games afterwards copied them, and had the advantage to improve on weaknesses, weaknesses that games like HL2 have because they are genre defining. (cinematic FPS, genre was taken over by COD (which became popular after HL2 releaseed) and the rest is history)
