Meh, none of the things you listed are why I don't like them. I just find the systems annoying as fuck to learn. Tried out Shogun 2 a while back because I was told it was one of the easiest to learn. I spawn into a map (after having to create an avatar with a bunch of choices the game doesn't explain the meaning of) and I make about 10 attempts to click on various parts of my city and city screen to get any info, then give up and march a soldier to a neighboring territory. I see a small village that tells me it will provide some resources if I attack it, so I click on it and my soldier spawns a chair out of his ass and sits down. Ended my turn thinking maybe the attack happens the following turn but 2 turns later he's still on his siesta. I've been meaning to watch some tutorial on youtube or something because I feel like I'd enjoy it once I understand how to actually play.

It's always interesting to see what minor things trigger /v/'s autism. I've never played a game in this genre before, saw a thread a few weeks back, asked what a good starter was, someone suggested a few things, I picked shogun because samurais seemed like an interesting setting. My peon brain couldn't understand the mechanics on my first try. Like I said, I've been meaning to read up on how to play. I do find it ironic that you're all being so hostile towards a newcomer in a thread literally about telling people they should play this genre.

>Issues of grand strategy typically include the choice of primary versus secondary theaters in war, distribution of resources among the various services, the general types of armaments manufacturing to favor, and which international alliances best suit national goals. Grand strategy has considerable overlap with foreign policy, but grand strategy focuses primarily on the military implications of policy. The political leadership of a country typically directs grand strategy with input from the most senior military officials. The development of a nation's grand strategy may extend across many years or even multiple generations.

>>
>>333250113
Yeah, I like the various binary alt history choices. It's exactly what the genre needs.

I was pretty blown away when I saw the Anglo-French Union during the World War Wednesday stream.

Of course, a remaining problem is still the fact that only a small number of nations are actually playable to an enjoyable extent. It was an exercise in autism trying to play as a South American fascist nation - oh sure you could do it, but the game doesn't really want you to and there are various penalties applied to you, most notably of which is the strange idea that Brazil was not an industrialized nation at the time. Sure it wasn't Germany, but it was still a self-sufficient country for goodness sake!

However, I think that can be easily remedied with regional DLCs that make South American, Africa/Middle Eastern, Asian, Minor European, British Commonwealth, and Soviet Satellites more fun to play. Like you get unique systems for joining various ideologies and unique objectives if you want to do something alt history like fascist Persia or restore the Ottoman Empire.

If you aren't actually a troll, some basics for Shogun 2:
Start as the Shimazu or Chosokabe on medium for your first playthroughs, other clans are much harder until you know what you're doing
>Economy
-Get trade agreements with other clans
-Upgrade your port to a trade port and build trade ships, send them to the trade nodes around the map for massive dosh
-ALWAYS be in the positive for food. Never build higher level castles without having a surplus of food
-Upgrading farms first is a good idea, don't neglect upgrading roads and ports as well
-NEVER upgrade markets
-recruit Metsuke's from towns with markets. Stick them in your most profitable towns for even more income. Upgrade them along the Overseeing Town line
>Diplomacy
-NEVER backstab an ally, always break agreements and wait for truce timers to run out
-ALWAYS expect the AI to betray you, unless their temperament is Peaceful
>Combat
-Ashigaru are cheap, but weak. Very cost effective though and good for early game. Samurai cost more in both training cost and upkeep, but are much stronger
-Spears beat Cavalry, Swords beat Spears. Archers beat low destroy low armour units (like Ashigaru and Monks) but are less effective against high armour units (Samurai). Cavalry are good for killing bow units, decisive charges against wavering units, and mopping up kills when the enemy has routed
-Units on top of hills get defensive and range bonus, and are harder to hit with bows. Units in forests are hidden until enemy units get close, and are highly protected from bows
-Yari Ashigaru using the spear wall ability tire faster and move slower, but murder almost anything in melee but specialized combat samurai (like Katanas)
-A clan's speciality increases the stats and reduces the cost of certain units, making them highly cost effective. it's always a good idea to play to these strengths. For the Shimzau its Katana Samurai/Cavalry, for the Chosokabe its bow armed units
>>
>>333250524
I don't think that's true in HoI4. HoI3 was heavily scripted and had horrible production mechanics which made the game heavily dependent on the performance of 3 nations. Even as a small major like Italy it was a horrible struggle to pump out infantry/planes/tanks/ships on the meager IC.

But in HoI4 it seems like even small nations like Finland can do a lot of things because of the way production is structured and industry is built up.

Even in HoI2 it was nowhere near as bad as HoI3.

So spiraling into a depression and convinced she would be forever shunned by God she took her own life.
