P3 isn't perfect, and the pacing flat-out sucks sometimes, but the game is more challenging, the story is better, the characters have arcs as opposed to being static the whole game, Tartarus was a daunting challenge to overcome, and the soundtrack is indisputably superior. P3 also has one hell of a final boss and ending. Whereas P4's was some rainbow eyeball or something.
Lack of party control I feel worked much better than people give it credit for. Issuing party commands and playing roles yourself gave changing Personas an actual use. In P4 it feels like a left-over from 3 that was never truly required out of you to utilize, since you can just puppeteer Yukiko to nuke and heal specific targets at your own will instead of needing to do it yourself by switching around.

Hardly, barely any difference in difficulty. If I wanted to play a hard rpg I wouldn't pick either of the 2.

I may think the characters in persona games are shitty, but did you completely miss the part where characters in 4 have an arc dedicated to overcoming they're shadows which represent a part of them they don't want to accept and coming to terms with them?

I hope they fix the writing in P5. The plot in P4 was shit in comparison to P3, but it had better flavor writing. P3 is the opposite, because its S-Links and other plot-irrelevant shit were just that: shit.
