I don't get it. People here on /v/ often slam people for getting expensive peripherals, but why? Not only does it feel more comfortable, it has more utility and can improve your gaming skills.
>>
Depends on who you talk to about it honestly.
I'm all for buying expensive stuff as long as it's high quality.
Buying an overpriced razer keyboard is not okay, but buying an overpriced mechanical keyboard that's like 200 dollars without even the letters on it when you could build the same exact shit and have it look nicer for less than half is also not okay.
As long as you're buying a quality product though I don't see what's wrong with spending money. Just have to make informed decisions.
>>
>>333225857
Because the other stuff gets higher quality with higher price (except maybe the shoes).

Gaming-related hardware stuff like keyboards, mouses, only get a GAMING tag for more money but it's still a cheap product (usually)
>>
>expensive watch can tell more time
>expensive headphones have a wider audio range

If anything, expensive "gaming" keyboard are of a lower quality than cheapo shit.

You can find any cheap chink shit you'll need on there.
>>
>>333225857
So buy an old IBM mechanical at a thrift and you'll have one of the best keyboards ever built. No argument necessary.
>>
>>333225857
There are different price 'barriers'.
I'm not sure how it's in dollarydoos, but if you want something like great mechanical watch you won't pay more than ~280$. Over that and you are paying for shit like goldened gears or god knows what else.
Headphones are really tricky. If you look or read up long enough you can find some 25$ that play better than than 200$ pair. I haven't followed market in longass time, but I remember some really expensive models being valid buys as well, but only if you really love music and have dedicated hardware to play it on.
If you really want your shoes to not make your feet sweat really badly in summer or be waterproof you have to get that money out.
10$ keyboard will do anything you want it to do. Anything htat costs more is either meme or has useless shit like led backlightened panels. If you are lazy, I could understand, if you paid more for keyboard with build in flash memory and deidacted buttons for some macors, but that's about it.
Bassically if something has GAYMING written on it, there is 99% of chance it's overpriced shit.

tl;dr dont overpay for memes or other useless features
>>
>>333227181
They're higher fidelity capable of producing a wider range of frequencies and they're also more accurate to the original source.
>>
Buying gamer-branded shit is always a mistake because unless it's a product that fills a niche, like MMO mice, they're invariably shit quality articles sold at a premium to retards. That said, peripherals are the means through which one interacts with their computer, and if you have an expensive PC you're only compromising your own experience by not getting an appropriately expensive monitor/mouse/keyboard/soundcard/headphones/etc.

Broad example: If you spent more than 1000 dollars on your build you owe it to yourself to get an IPS/120Hz monitor.

being more expensive doesn't automatically make something more accurate. many headphones (even expensive ones) don't aim for "natural" accuracy in the first place.

there are cheap headphones that sound really good and expensive headphones that sound really bad. it's been a pretty well mastered technology for decades.
>>
>>333228152
It's literally facts though backed up by engineering.
Whether you feel the higher price is justified or not is completely irrelevant because there is a difference between your 30 dollar skullcandy headphones or 50 dollar Logitech headset and a quality pair of AKGs or Sennheisers

1TB SSDs are pointless, but I don't think I could live without a 120GB / 240GB boot drive anymore. Setting aside ~$100 for an SSD in any build is pretty much a given now. I'd never not get an SSD, unless I buy a laptop (just so I can buy the SSD myself at a non-bloated price).

>Not only does it feel more comfortable, it has more utility and can improve your gaming skills.
The only thing you should be buying are things that are durable.

But when it comes to gaming, more expensive != durable 99% of the time.

All of those "gamer" keyboards, mice, headsets break within 2 months and cost 3 times as much as regular versions of them.
>>
>>333234538
yes the "gamer" stuff is crap

but also just because a good built mechanical keyboard has some lights on it doesn't automatically make it gamer crap

headsets are a scam though, the only right move is to get good headphones and a cheap clip on or desktop mic

There's very little in the gaming industry worth paying more money for. Most are just low quality items with logos slapped on them.

I bought some cheap Logitech keyboard for $20.

If I played some kind of competitive game regularly and got serious about I'd buy a proper keyboard as I'd probably notice the difference.
Dudes used to be sick at online shooters on their old white plastic stock keyboards, so it's not like people can't get good with shit hardware though.

My mouse is also a HP mouse that cost $15.
But my Fightstick for fighting games cost me $300 total after all buttons and parts.
I wouldn't use a cheap stick. SO there's that.

Depends what you need it for.

>I've bought cheap $30 shoes from Walmart only to have the soles tear and collapse in less than six months.

I buy runners that double as non-slip shoes and wear them for both work and casual wear and they usually get worn by the six month mark. Although it takes more then a few holes to stop me from wearing them. Is 30$ bi-yearly not something I should be spending on shoes I use up to 12 hours a day?

I do.
It costed me 12 dollars to make this watch.
I was told by /g/ watchfags that this is a copy of another watch, that I'm guessing is pretty expensive.

Still tickin' and I like the way it looks.

Holy fuck no anon do you even use a mouse? Keyboard is hit n miss for quality, personally I've now been using my mechanical with cherry reds for three years. Is it 'better'? Build quality, yes. Functionality? No. Preference? Yup, I like it.

A mouse on the other hand is a whole other issue. I've tried cheap mice (Sub $40) and never once have I felt like it was a decent product. Either having input delay, a poor sensor, to simply feeling bad to hold.

Razer makes one good product, that's their mice. There are other good brands, Logitech used to be fantastic, but for now my passed two Razer's have served well, I see no reason to change that.

Expensive watches are a status symbol and are acceptable as such.

Middle priced headphones have a distinctive advantage over very low budget ones.

Shoes are over priced like all brand clothing made in sweat shops and it's near impossible to find a decent pair for that low of a price.

Expensive keyboards are mostly a meme.

You're making a mistake wearing a single pair constantly. Buy 2 pairs and switch them regularly, they'll last way WAY beyond the year you'd expect. The materials in shoes need a bit of time off to return to shape, giving them a break vastly increases their lifespan.

I usually buy shoes ~$60 and get 5-10 years out of them...

I spend all day in front of a computer, and I'd say the complete opposite.
I have an expensive watch, an expensive pair of headphones, two expensive pairs of shoes, but my keyboard is some old shitty HP generic keyboard from the early 2000's, and it has not impacted my gaming performance at all.
I used to have a mechanical keyboard because I bought into the hype, and sure it felt satisfying to type with but I didn't really get the satisfaction that money should have gotten me, as opposed to my pleasure derived from my watch, headphones and shoes.
My only peeve is that my M-key is a little dodgy and requires a slightly harder push to register, otherwise I'm completely happy with my piece of shit keyboard.
Besides, if some type of peripheral device could improve your gaming skills, it would be a mouse with a good sensor to improve your aiming abilities and a good pair of headphones in order to hear positional sounds better, not a keyboard.
