I didn't like the day limit as a kid, but haven't played it since. I've got 50 hours in Pikmin 3 though, I love that game.
3 is shit, 2 is GOTY, 1 was great but I can't go back to it after playing 2, even though it does some things better.

I almost got a Gamecube a few years ago solely to play this game. As a kid I remember seeing videos of it and wanting to play it so badly.
Recently I was about to emulate it and got told not to bother with it and skip straight to 2.

It's not. Some people are put off by the 30 day time limit is all, whereas Pikmin 2 has no time limit and is more comfortable to play because of that.

No the game is fucking great. The time limit is actually really lenient on how much you can goof around, but not amazingly so. 30 days for thirty parts, and it not being hard to get more than one a day, it's not hard to get ahead.
2 has no time limit though (unless you make one for yourself) so you can goof off as much as you fucking want.
I really liked the ability to plot paths for the pilots on gamepad in 3. It felt like I was really multi-tasking, setting things up and checking back once tasks were complete to issue new orders, etc.
Compared with 2, where you have zero control over a pilot when you're not directly controlling him, meaning you can't divide labor that well, because you have to constantly baby both of them. Olimar can't even move while Louie is doing something.
