I'm an avid PC gamer and Im excited about all this cross platform development going on. It takes a very narrow mind to get upset about this at all.
>>
Linux is the tragic hero in the greek drama which is the gaming & technology industries.
The world would be a better place if Linux won, but unfortunately it just isn't going to happen. Instead, Micro$oft's corrupting influence is so strong that Win10 overtook Win7 to be the most popular platform among Steam users.
What a shitty fucking existence.

This, exclusives are all but dead in the water. It's also a sign of the times that consoles are these awful cross-media boxes instead of only being about the games, but we started shifting on that last gen.

More people buying games everywhere is better for the industry since it means more people playing/paying, and more people that are likely to continue using the system. Keep letting console users pay yearly for internet, don't really care for their loss.

There's still competition that comes in the form of a service. We'll likely still get console smaller exclusives but the money isn't there for it to be a worth the ROI. Companies have crunched the numbers and this new prospective business model seems to benefit more people so they're giving it a shot. In personal experience, consoles have become commonplace enough that most who buy them are doing it for social reasons more so than to play a few exclusive games.

It has a billion distros because people have the power to pick and choose the components that make up their system, and distribute these systems for others to use.
Windows on the other hand is controlled solely by A singular corporate entity with an interest in locking out its users.

there is no competition if it is only about exclusives, if every game was available on everything there would be actual competition to make the best platform between the manufacturers, the only conflict these companies should engage in.
Yet they fight their war by proxies, by buying, enslaving and ruining indepenent developers, holding their games hostage to their own platform that has no reason to be actually better than their competitors.

Its only that big because they prefer to use it for servers since its not as heavy on memory, if MS ever manages to get their head out of their ass and do something about that, Linux will lose even that niche

>>
>>333175096
Sure but do you think that the 99% of the PC users will care about that? If they cared Linux and its variants would have a bigger market share. Hell at a store I worked years ago we installed ubuntu on each compute because it was free but we started bundling together Windows because everyone who went to buy them wanted windows

Oh yeah I really want that stuttering sound that only Wine manages to give for current games
>>
>>333172057

You're arguing about competition between consoles and platforms, which is as far away from gaming as you can get. Games are the important thing, and competition between games comes with the territory.

So basically your priorities are fucked and / or you're working for one of these companies.
>>
>>333175395

>Sure but do you think that the 99% of the PC users will care about that?

99% of pc users don't even know what windows is beyond the thing that makes facebook work. For the average pleb you really could condense windows down to a web browser and network stack.

Eventually Linux is going to be THE operating system that everybody uses.

It's just really funny how Microsoft is shooting themselves in the foot with how they're really speeding along the NEED for a Windows alternative. Had they just made Windows 8 and 10 exactly like Windows 7, people wouldn't be wanting to switch.
