Is it worth me getting hype for Overwatch? or am I setting myself up for dissapointment it seems like 2016 Team Fortress with more fleshed out characters.

It will be an even more casual version of TF2. It's what Hots is to Mobas.
It's some sort of hybrid between Hots and TF2.
And it's being censored because of SJWs.
The only real thing to be hyped about is whatever fanart you'll find of it. That's pretty much it.

Unless you mean more as in "a larger number of" I'm gonna have to disagree with you there. TF2 has less characters but each one has a lot of personality at this point, most of the Overwatch characters really seem kind of one note. That said, it might just be because TF2 has been around longer and they've had the time to explore the characters better with comics and Meet the Team videos. I guess we'll find out soon enough.
