They're episodes of the Quantum Break TV show, I've heard.
Apparently, your decisions in the game also affect these TV episodes.
Which is fucking crazy.
An example I heard from a podcast was that the guy found some kind of item, and that item got a cameo in the next episode. It wasn't even something important, it just shows up because he found it.
Seems like it's closer to Xbone's Until Dawn.

Sounds like you did a terrible job.
Finished this game yesterday. The story was pretty good and there were a lot of emails and messages and other narrative pieces placed around each level that did a really good job at fleshing out the world (I only collected like half of them). However, the writing seemed to lose track near the end. The live episodes were nice, well acted and merged perfectly with the game. The actual gameplay was lackluster. Almost every gameplay scene was literally just fight enemies that happened to show up, look around for those emails then press the button for the cutscene. The few times you had to do some third person platforming and solve level puzzles with time powers were good. Honestly, the game would've been better as a completely live action TV show.
If anyone else is done the game I'd love to discuss the ending, literally wtf but I think it has something to do with a certain letter in a certain office.
