No, the maps were complete garbage.
As someone who just played through all MGS games up until 5 for the first time, I thought 4 was bland. Otacon looks like a 36 year old soccer mom, Snake was fucking depressing the entire time, combat is way too easy and you always have a plethora of rations, Meryl ends up with literally who, le poopy pants. I don't even know how they ruined Naomi and Mei Ling. Plus all the robo bosses just felt completely out of place I didn't care about listening to Drebin's dumb explanations of their horrible lives.
For a game that focused heavily on it's story, I just didn't like it that much. Things I liked were the camo suit and Raiden.
