I would attribute TF2's decline less to shitty balance and more so the fact that the updates were so sparse and meaningless that the core community lost interest and moved on. The good servers they held up died shortly thereafter.
Bronies and Furries always had a significant presence in TF2. After a while they began to outnumber the people who actually made the game fun to play.
If you want to see shit updates killing a game, look at PlanetSide 2 or Star Wars Galaxies.

I never got to use the original one since I've only been playing since 2013, but I like the idea behind the original one with the 100% boost loss on jump more than what they've done with it now.
It was an actual decent weapon concept, you restrict scout's dodging options to 2 dimensions in exchange for a big speed boost, really not sure why they thought it needed a rebalance.

This has happened to me twice today.
You have one player saying all go one class like Spy or Sniper, even though you're on Defense. Most of the team complies and is now a terrible class and all die while either friendly or ineffectually trying to revolver kill a Medic / Soldier combo. Then either the guy who suggested the class change or someone with an obnoxious clan tag or anime avatar starts votekicking team mates who aren't meming with them.
They're literally feeding the enemy team and then cry about them being tryhards even though it's a regular deathmatch or cp server.

They did actually add a 20% damage resistance to the Invis Watch and CnD in the Gun Mettle update back in July. Being cloaked also halves the time it takes for fire, bleed, jarate and mad milk to stop.

MM needs some fixes for it to be great.
It needs a Endurance mode that goes on forever till you lose.
it also needs some better upgrades for certain classes so they can truly be useful. Pryo is only ever seen as Tank Buster and nothing more so maybe a Pyro specific upgrade that makes him deal extra damage to tanks, or have Spy get a health and speed bosst from collecting cash as well as insta-respawn and so on.
