Black Ops 1 was the last good one and the best of the series for online multiplayer. There was a much higher focus on gunplay and killstreaks didn't do everything for you. Even if you got chopper gunner or dogs, they were easily killed/destroyed. Yes the Famas was overused but almost every gun in the game was capable of winning a gunfight.

I think it was the last good COD when it comes to what we expect from a normal call of duty game.
They fixed a lot of the stuff from CoD4 and polished the formula. Made everything better.
Then came out Mw3 which was a copy and paste game, and brought nothing new to the table.
Then there's advanced warfare, which was way different from all the other CoDs, and I loved it.

I really enjoyed advanced warfare. you can tell they put alot of love into it. it had tons free cosmetics and weapons that were regularly added: ak-47, m-16, stg, m1 garand, incinerator, dragonov.

My issue with Die Rise was it felt too constricting with probably the most annoying EE in the game. Tranzit was bad if you didn't have any idea what was going on but I think they should have improved upon the idea. MotD was more of a return to form to traditional zombie maps and I liked the general design it had. Origins being set in WW1 was pretty cool.

Turns out there's more to tactics than hugging corners. If you realized that, then you could try and not run straight into a commando ninja's kill distance.
LMGs had superior range over all ARs, and better penetration than most. That plus being able to hose cover with lead was how you leveraged them.
There weren't many MPs to start with, and 5 SMGs -- three being useful literally means MOST of them were.
Support was dropped because Infinity Ward had a contract disagreement with Activision and got laid off.

Black Ops is garbage and is meme taste. WaW was good, but had some terrible design decisions and mediocre multiplayer.
I recently replayed it, it's good for a few hours of mindless fun killing dudes and that's it. The oh so shocking plot twist that your character is killed was cool in COD4, in this they just did it again but with more innocent people dying before one of the char deaths to be more edgy and generate more controversy and the ending scene was literally the same.

I did like the scene where Ghost and Roach die though, that was well-done.

MW2 was the last one I really played, finished it on veteran and played online a bit. I had enough fun to get my moneys worth. I tried ghosts because I got it for a few dollars on steam played it for a few hours and thought it was horrible couldn't believe it graphically looked worse than MW2 either. Also played black ops on a free weekend was ok but not worth buying. The treyarch games are generally shit nazi zombies is terrible I'll stick with Killing Floor for my horde shooter.
For what they are the COD games are not really bad just stale as fuck and not worth paying for the same game every year. That and the multiplayer especially has so many design choices that have been copied to death (looking at you battlefield) that I don't enjoy.

I played the tits off of CoD4. Hell, I'd replay multiplayer missions all the time because they were baller, and I put more online time into CoD4 than I did MW2 even after MW2 was released.
I put up with MW2 bullshit for 36 hours. 36 hours of screaming children and teleporting knifers. Fuck that noise. Made me never even consider buying another CoD.

Semi autos were a one hit kill anyway so bolt actions weren't that powerful unless you planned on wallbanging a lot. The M1 Garand was especially OP because you could put a sniper scope on it as opposed to the other semi autos which could only have a telescopic scope (ACOG) and whatever the red dot equivalent was called.
