I tried the game out and it sure as hell looked nice bu t god did it run awfully and the controls/combat clunky. Maybe once a few more betas are out I'll try it again. I do really want to like it because I love the setting and love open world games.

Witcher has been successful in spite of journalists, but it is not the only example of a game that was unfairly criticized for bullshit reasons. When developers decide what games they should do next and see how controversial it is to make a game where races or sexes aren't equal, they'll make a safe game instead. Especially AAA developers. We will see more and more sanitized games, where society is equal and everyone is perfect and has 21st century morals. Not even villains can't be seen as racist. But that's not art and it doesn't reflect real life. It's propaganda.

A lot of work? I haven't even said a genre. I just said "historical game". It can be an adventure game, shooter, rpg, whatever. What makes it niche? It can be a game set in 1950s. Mafia games aren't niche. They sold millions of copies, but they were still called racist, because they depicted people how they were at that time. Publishers realize that and now the third game is now "inclusive" propaganda piece, that has nothing to do with real life.
