I think those two are the games that rely most on raw skill in order to be good, without considering the 'out-smarting' part of a videogame. I can't tell which one is the most skill intensive game in fighting, but my money is on 3rd Strike because of the parry mechanic.

actually it's still going hard in Korea, there are some tournaments here and there with a very alive community and streamers.
It might be dead in the West, but I'm 99% sure that Blizz is going to release a nostalgia pack of their old games from the 90's/early 2000's (pre-WC3) with support for new resolutions and all of that, so it could be the start of some kind of revival for Brood War in the West. Still, their new Battle.net isn't exactly a straight upgrade from the old one, so they need to work on that or people won't hop in the hype train, probably add stuff from ICCup in the process, like the ranking system.
