False. A lot of the circuitry on PCBs are vulnerable to heat. Not to mention you are forcing them to use metal gears for their mechanics as plastic ones would catch fire very easily. A metal gear requires more force, a bigger motor, and thus more weight. This is where the second model comes in with its low profile and ability to flip.

Well, ignoring everything else survival-related (constructing settlements, extensive trap-constructions - you could for example build a several kilometers long trap fence, fishing, trade and whatever), there really isn't much "endgame" besides fighting the hostile Njerpetz tribe. Then again, survival is involved enough if you want to last through winter, particularly with more difficult starts. The author is also looking into adding (thematic and randomized, not the MMO-style gather 10 bear asses advertised by a yellow question mark) quests in the next patch.
