Look at it this way ; Tevinter Imperium is basically National-Socialist Germany, if it would be set in medieval times with magic and with monarchy. Dorian comes from ''Elite family'', who sought to create another Fuhrer (Archon), and they succeeded, only downside is that it is Gay. Tevinter Imperium, being tradinionalists, see this as huge downside and minus for the candidate, so his father tried to remove only flaw of his son, failed and alienated his own son, seeding hate for current Tevinter.
It's actually greatly written character, you can switch him being gay with any other flaw (like being half elf or so), and It wouldn't change a thing.

That's Gaider's fault. He advertised Dorian like the first full gay character of the series, reducing him to a stereotype, when in truth he is genuinely a good character who never oversteps his boundaries if you are a male Inquisitor and treats a female Inquisitor as his only, best friend.
One of the many reasons people hate Bioware is because of the bad advertisement they do to themselves. Gaider worsened the company's reputation a lot, not just with his stupid interviews, but with his passive-aggressive rants on the forums and twitter too. No wonder they made him leave the company in the end.

I actually really liked his story and I actually was stumped on what to do after he reveals himself since I was romancing him and it actually felt like a betrayal. I wanted to send him to the Wardens but I ended up pardoning him and kind of hating myself for it.
Also, at least in my experience, he left immediately after I fucked him (don't know if this is always the case) so it was extra hurtful, but in that way actually pretty well done for modern Bioware writing. Bravo, you made me feel something Gaider.

I romanced him too. His romance is one of the best in the franchise, holy shit. That partwhere he removes Lavellan's vallaslin and the Lost Temple theme plays made shivers run down my spine, it was extremely well done and the facial expressions were 10/10
Trespasser was so good too. I hope there will be the chance to redeem him, because I really don't want to kill him, especially since my Lavellan romanced him and swore to save him.

The gameplay is still a snoozefest, but at least it has a tolerable story and some decent characters. DA2 had 1 decent character and he's still in DAI anyway.
I only paid 15 bucks used for it for PS4 and I don't regret it. I even pirated it to play it on PC and mod it too. It's like a 6/10, I'd say. People hate Vivian for being a mage. Humans hate humans from other regions. Dwarves hate dwarves who live on the surface. Elves hate elves who live in human cities. There are plenty of equivocal terms to "nigger" in Dragon Age, it isn't just humans hating dwarves and elves.
Humans probably get along the most compared to the other races because they're basically blamed for all the problems of the dwarves and elves (causing the Blight and conquering the Dales) even though we find out that the elves fucked themselves over.

Hawke is the best DA protgonist on the merit of personality alone, if only because the Warden's personality was never strongly defined and was entirely up to you. That's great but the character doesn't really have much of a personality. The Inquisitor has a personality but they're fucking bland. DA2 was terrible, though. Why did the Head Enchanter turn into an abomination when you sided with him? Also the Qunari attack on DAII wasn't really a plot line - really DA2 lacked for a coherent plot line. It was just Hawke fucking shit up repeatedly because they wanted to get rich instead of returning to Ferelden. Qunari are probably an "artificial" race created by the elven gods and later reproduced by the ancient magisters (one of those golden mosaics you have to find pieces of shows this).
Corypheus tells a Qunari Inquisitor that the Kossith were "a mistake" and Kieran says "Qunari's blood isn't theirs". Even Bull mentions they might have dragon blood in their veins.
They are probably a mix between dragons and elves, perhaps created by Ghilan'nain or the other gods together. Ancient elves thought dragons were the "divine form".

DA2 plot seemed all over the place because it was originally planned as a simple DLC for Origins at first. Then EA intervened and forced Bioware to make a full game with a small budget in less than a year.
Still, they managed to put it a lot of the story they wanted to tell and it basically starts the events of Inquisition: the discovery of red lyrium (so Titan's blood with the Blight), the mage rebellion, the Qunari beginning to move south, all the mentions to Fen'Harel (Fen'Harel's Tooth, Fen'Harel's Mask, the stories about him) and his awakening (towards the end of the game, you can hear an elven slave talk about his dream and say he dreamed the Dread Wolf waking up)
