Ah, so pretty much how I feel besides changing hate to being just meh with it. AE is a mixed bag. It's probably the best writing the series has, but it can also be very boring to play at times.

Yeah, AE's gameplay can be kind of rough to deal with at times, but to me, the characters make up for it. Focusing the action on two protagonists and having a few different, more open antagonists as opposed to a nebulous mastermind was a welcome change, and the character development that Toko got was excellent.

I still feel like there's too much potential to just drop the Hope's Peak saga - you could at the very least make another mainline-type game starring Monaca and Nagito as co-masterminds that would be largely disconnected from the main story (basically being a trial run for Junko 2.0), and an AE-type spinoff about Future Foundation capturing the Remnants of Despair.
But I guess it's better to cut early than late.

Did you come from DRG? I enjoy the series a lot, the only side story I haven't read is DRK, simply because it's too long and I can't find a translation for it. As stupid as the motive was in the first, I find the story captivating, the characters and how they're developed are top-tier.
