Final Fantasy XV will be a beautiful mess, it will be oozing production values and have amazing moments, but it will be uneven and disjointed, the constant overhauls and bloated development time will shine through.
Persona 5 will be the opposite, more restrained and quaint, but much more tightly designed with a strong vision behind it.
They will excel at different things, but ultimately I think P5 will come out as the generally just stronger game.

FFXV looks interesting, but I really just don't enjoy any of FF's attempts to move away from turn-based combat. Besides that FF's track record for the past years has not been good, whereas Persona seems to just get better with every entry even if the tone of the games shifts. Also, I just enjoy turn-based JRPGs. I don't know why people seem to dislike them so much these days, but I'd always prefer a solid turn-based system to a wonky, watered down ARPG trying to be a character action game.
I'm watching FFXV and would love to see it get great reviews as well as fan response on release so I can look forward to a good JRPG. But FF hasn't been good for a long time, I'm not betting on FFXV being the savior. P5 is a day one buy since Persona has been pretty awesome consistently (ignoring some spin-offs) and the trailers only seem to confirm that P5 will follow that trend.
I'd still like to see SMTIV: Final at some point, but that's just a dream at the moment.

FF15 for me. Atlus fucked up way to much with P5, its going to be a mess. I enjoyed both of the demos for 15 so im sticking with that. They do it because they go for the most popular and weakest platforms. They had a ton of prescene on saturn, ps1, ds, ps2, 3ds. Theyve always rolled this way going by their history.
I just cant seem to care about anything atlus related besides persona and digital devil saga which is wrapped up and persona was my favorite series for a while, especially after going through golden. I had an insane amount of hype for P5 but theyve squandered it, year after year now in favor of shitty handheld games and milking persona 4. Fuck em

I can definitely see why the two fanbases differ considering how Persona is incredibly casual compared to SMT, and SMT is constantly beating the player down with tough fights as well as doom and gloom constantly. But both series have great gameplay, music, and atmospheres. I will admit though, I do like Persona a little bit more if only because it's so much more relaxing. I enjoy punching Lucifer in the dick, but SMT games have some really oppressive atmospheres sometimes. I still love both though.
Speaking of which, I have to get back to Strange Journey at some point.

I'm pretty sure that atlus and square are in contact with one another, they most likely established an agreement to get the FFXV announcement out early at a suitable time, then wait until the hype settles, then do their persona announcement, they wouldn't have been working of schedules that were blind and independent to each other, square can afford to but I don't think they would've been sociopaths enough to keep Atlus in the dark like that.
All I can assume is that everything is ticking along nicely and the announcement will come when the time is right.
What I want to know is how and why the fuck Persona 5 is a PS4 exclusive, like Sony didn't contract the game as far as I know, how come it's PS4 exclusive, I dun get it.

Not that it matters, but just for the record, winter 2014 could have meant anywhere between the tail end of november and early march. In a way, 2015 was always the target year (Probably a february release) but my guess is, the forced PS4 development fucked up their schedule.
And most likely unrelated, but still worth taking into consideration, Falcom recently announced they had to delay the PS4 release of their latest Ys release because they were having difficulties with PS4 development. Taking into consideration Atlus is mid-tier when it comes to budget, and the whole "difficult to to HD shit" from last gen, who knows, maybe they're facing similar constraints

Well, Persona has always been exclusive to Sony consoles to my knowledge. Wikipedia page says Revelations got an odd port to PC in Japan, but otherwise they've been on the PS1, PS2, PSP, Vita, and now PS3/PS4.
That doesn't mean it has to stay exclusive, but I wouldn't be surprised if Sony did have a deal with Atlus for that series. Especially since Atlus is willing to throw their games on Nintendo consoles, see SMT. But yeah, Persona has never really left Sony. No surprise to see P5 exclusive to PS3/PS4.
