I don't see where those numbers will come from. The economy is shit in both Japan and America, Final Fantasy hasn't had a good main entry since the PS1, the only marketing I saw has been at or from GameStop and thus will only be seen by existing console gamers instead of becoming a reason for new players to buy the system like VII was. A JRPG needs to put a new disc in the hands of one out of every five console owners? When Japan has almost abandoned consoles in favor of phones?
Don't get me wrong, I want to see it succeed. I love the JRPG. If anything it's my favorite genre. And I utterly despise every single ugly-looking Western game where the plot is either an afterthought to online multiplayer, hopeless to the point at which it stops being worth caring about, or both. I want to see beautiful characters and hear beautiful music in games again. I want to see fantastic scenery and experience a tale that fills me with a sense of something other than depression. These are things on which the Final Fantasy series, even in its darker entries, even in its outright BAD entries, has been known to deliver to some extent. And if it were to succeed brilliantly, it might just make that more common in games again. But it would take a miracle for it to be the rousing success it would need to be, even if it's good. And with the Final Fantasy series having gone at least a decade and change since its last good game, that's a big if.

The gameplay already shows signs that some enemies will have many of the same powers as you, making battles hectic and difficult. There's an obvious parrying mechanic and there are dodges with i-frames. The combat is also a lot faster than it was initially a while back. And if Kingdom Hearts II FM is any example of what this team can do (the team working on this is the one that made that), then there's no reason to assume the combat system will be bad.

Actually, the problems with the game were discussed quite regularly during the game's development. It all started when we found out Toriyama went to school for directing movies instead of vidya. The extent of how bad the game was, was revealed to us after the Japanese release, and everyone was talking about it. The game was even dropped in price by $20 in Japan a few months after release and that was a big shit storm. How little attention did you pay back then anon? Bethesda make games relatively cheaply (ever wondered why they're still using the same engine since morrowind?), and they sell huge amounts even if the game is weak.

I haven't been burned by a single FF game since each bad game revealed its problems before the game even released. Its thanks to that, that I'm willing to give XV a chance. It hasn't revealed anything that screams to me that it is a bad game. FFVIIRe on the other hand... Yeah, fuck episodic. They wont see a dime out of me until they reverse that decision. 13-1's marketing materials were all about Gran Pulse, an area 80% into the game and represents like 10% of its content.
They definitely pulled the wool over our eyes for that one.

Well there is no perfect game, that is the point. I think the last remnant can easily be considered on par with the better FF parts. Personally I am confident that ff15 will be good but I doubt that it will surpass the others as it is a hack n slay with auto targetting from what I saw. They left the roots behind even though LR ff13-3 was already a good compromise, not sure why they had to break away even further.
Personally I enjoyed wrpgs from 1998-early 2000s a lot and think some of them are easily as good as best ff games if not better. In the end its all subjective anyways.

Yeah I think they are. I sometimes have the feeling I am part of like 3-5% of people who enjoy wrpg AND jrpgs equally. It just has to be well made for me to enjoy it. I enjoyed the corridors in 13-1 and I enjoyed the vast areas in earlier ff games. There were plenty of other good rpgs, you just have to try to be objective to see it. I think Grandia series or Shadow Hearts to name a few more examples were also full of fresh ideas back then and also stellar games. Or stuff like Legend of the Dragoon, etc.
