As a beginner, go for either clubs, fists or rifles/pistols. You can also go zombie fists which is easymode, because you resurrect after death in most cases.
Nice tag skills are weapon, (quickdraw for guns), medic and repair or scavenge.
Many people will tell you to grind, but I say fuck that. Just do jobs to grind XP and buy your skills instead.
