I think it's worse. Very limited compared to Tales. Even Zestiria has more. However it's serviceable. You have 2/3 normal attacks. The thing with SO is that it's based on ranges, short and long, You can activate certain skills depending on the distance from the enemy to you. thing is, you can only have 2 skills per range which suck imo. There's magic also which is called Symbology but in SO5 it's called something else. Overll it's not that bad, but Tales is honestly much better. I only played SO2 and SO3, so I have no idea how SO4 and SO5 improved things. I know SO5 has guard and you can counter.

Seriously, you niggas can do aerial combat, all sorts of blocks and dodges, each weapon has multiple special moves, and a surprising amount of depth for a stripped down demo.
Oh, and if you do use the right timing, YOU CAN perfect dodge cancel from MOST attack animations- there are some that you can't (mostly great sword), air attacks you must use an aerial rave dodge, which has more strict timing and doesn't require any presses of square at all. Not every attack can be dodged by holding down square. Some attacks you must have pressed square within a certain time frame of the enemies attack.

Attack once, stop, wait for the exact moment the great sword glows white to "Vanish" then press attack again and hold it this time. Charge does maximum damage right before the white particles vanish. You have to get a feel for it. Wait too long, and your charge attack will be weak.
Holding Back on the Analogue stick does the Tempest weapon skill from ED. Charge Attack can cancel into it for massive damage. Also, EVERYTHING (that I have tested so far) can cancel into magic.
