I have been playing this game on and off since it launched on the 360 and now PC.
I have finally got to the second bonfire in Blighttown and currently getting totally fucked by quelaag...
Have I hit the wall of this build? Have I missed something I need?
I have been using the drake sword and the claymore +1...

Just learn to dodge. When her sword lights up, she's about to attack and you need to dodge. Also don't forget her AoE when she lets her head down.
You may want lighter armor for more i-frames when dodging, or you can try to stick with using a shield.
Throw away the stupid drake sword and upgrade your weapon to +5. If you have troble with quelaag try summoning maneater mildred. She can solo the stupid bitch. But quelaag is pretty easy. Just run the fuck away when she's doing the aoe thing, and dodge everything else normally.

Whatever, you literally only need to git gud. The Drake Sword is still ok for this area, I used it too. Stop being greedy, be calm and learn to dodge. Run away when she starts fighting. Stay close to her and hit her in the ass when you can.
Your build is fine as it is. But atleast after Quelaag, stop using the Drake Sword.

Use Drake sword for now, upgrade your claymore when you get back to undead parish, and then ditch that shit (you fucking bitch).
Strip down your armor until you can fast roll. Spend a couple of minutes just watching her moveset on your next boss run. See how long her moves take, when they trigger, practice dodging, etc.

You have to equip the pyro glove to cast pyromancies, a catalyst to cast sorceries, or a talisman to cast miracles.
Cast with the same button you use to attack with.

Don't listen to this guy OP, when she starts attacking with her sword, run up and hug her front-left side (your right) and she'll be completely unable to hit you and leave her open to attack.

when quelaag goes to hug her spider run away. otherwise stay as close to her as possible and keep hitting her.
use the drake sword for now but immediately after you've beaten quelaag you should head back to andre the blacksmith and upgrade your other weapons. any weapon but the drake sword will do. just pick a weapon you like and upgrade it, and use it for the next segment of the game, sen's fortress.
after you beat o&s you might as well quit playing because the game becomes mostly shit after that point.

Elite knight is a strong set but upgrading your weapons to max will always be more important.
The rule is less applicable on first playthroughs, but the best defense is always a good offense.
You don't have to be fast rolling like everyone will tell you. Mid roll is perfectly fine, tanky builds are the best for a first play through.
But so long as you have a shield with 100% block, your armor stats aren't the most important thing, it's your ability to hit back like a truck with a fully upgraded claymore while they're staggered from hitting your shield.

Go through the skeleton graveyard, go back to qualaags lair or go through new londo ruins which you can get to by using the elevator underneath fire link shrine. You'll have to have beaten sif to complete new londo.

You go to bed of chaos and kill all the bosses and Kirk when he invades. By the time you finish BoC youll be stronger. Then go to Nito and then 4 kings.
Consider draining the water in New londo to get the ember so you can upgrade to +10

I would say Four Kings next so you can pick up the upgraded ember and get your shit to +15.
Go down the stairs behind the Firelink bonfire and take the elevator down, then walk into the flooded area full of ghosts and just make your way through.
And grab the items off the bodies near the little wooden bridge, you'll need to use transient curses to be able to hurt ghosts.
After that, go to Demon Ruins which comes just after where you killed Queelag so you can get to Lost Izalith and find the Sunlight Maggot, which is incredibly helpful in Tomb of the Giants.

If you had payed attention when you placed the lordvessel, the game literally shows you the areas you've opened.
To be fair, I did the exact same thing on my first playthrough.
Just remember the only thing that ends a boss fight is one of you running out of health; there is no timer.
Focus on not taking damage, and do damage when you can.
There are only two exceptions to this strategy as those two fights get worse if you damage too slowly.

To add to that, all spells (except for pyromancies i think) have prerequisites, just like weapons. So if your coresponding stat is low enouh you won't be able to use it. Miracle spells scale with faith, sorceries scale with intelligence. Pyromancies scale with the level of your pyromancy glove. Laurentius, whom you should have saved in the deph just after fighting the two butchers can give and upgrade the glove for you. The upgrade only requires souls.
In case you're wondering quelaag is resistant to fire, so don't bother using pyromancies on her.
Attunement stat is required to 'equip' more spells. You can have maximum 8 spells attuned, i think, so once you have 8 slots stop increasing attunment.

Then farm them! The titanite shard you need to upgrade weapons to +5 are dropped by hollow soldiers and balder knights in the parish, just next to andre the blacksmith. Baldr knights also drop a pretty nice balder side sword, but it's a dex weapon, so if you haven't been leveling dex don't bother with it. The drop is also somewhat rare.

The lava doesn't even do that much. It's not full-on lava like in demon ruins. Even then, Solaire takes like five damage a tick from lava, so I think NPCs get extra resistance to it or something.
Or maybe the implication is Solaire has already beaten the boss and has the orange charred ring on I dunno.

get a weapon that scales and upgrade it. Fighting Quelaag before you have a +4 to +5 weapon is very annoying. She's basically a check for "are you dealing enough damage as you should be by this point int the game?"
Literally just beat the spider bitch and going to the fortress now. Like OP I used the drake sword up to this point but am now using a Raw Snakeman Greatsword, its actually pretty good but is there something else I should use? 20END and 27STR iirc.

Dude, farm souls and buy fucking titanite shards or farm titanite shards from the fuckers in undead parish. Don't use elite knight because it's too heavy. Upgrade the starting pyromancer armor to lvl 3 with titanite shards should be good enough. I'm still rocking that shit but with elite knight legs atm. you want to be fast and not get hit. Relying on the armor to save you is a pretty stupid move if you can't roll fast.

if you need shards, just farm souls from the Drake's bridge and buy them from Andre, it's way faster than farming them yourself
if you need large shards, the slugs in Blighttown's swamp are the easiest farming spot. Bring the rusted iron ring tho

If you leave Queelag's area and just run straight forward you should see some wood platforms and a giant rotating wooden thing
Get on one of the platforms on the rotating thing and ride it up, should take you to some ladders
Take all the ladders up, grab the key from the chest, and go out the tunnel past some enemies
Cross the little wooden bridge and open the metal door, which will take you to an elevator
The elevator goes to New Londo, and right next to the first elevator will be another that takes you up to Firelink
That's the way you're supposed to exit Blighttown, but if you take the master key gift in character creation you can just go in backwards and skip all of Blighttown and go straight to Queelag

I'm sure it's been beaten to death in this thread before, OP, but you're right, you've hit the wall the Drake Sword will carry you to.
Get any weapon you feel like using that upgrades well and upgrade it as high as you can, watch Queelag and every other boss melt as you triple your damage output.
